POA

I don't like POA and even though I had a reasonable budget when I bought Cam I didn't phone if I saw ads with no price. Hope things are settling down for you now you have a new job. Any news on Cookie seeing the cookie cutter?

This picture made me sad though - probably not a bad little horse, but I don't much like seeing it trussed up like that. :(

No wonder we're baffled, Chan. Just recently you were posting saying that you couldn't afford to pay Ned's vet bill, or to have Cookie gelded. Now you seem to be looking for another horse.....

I know, I'm still in a wee bit of money trouble (but I have another interview on wednesday, so hopefully I'll have 2 jobs!)

Ok, so the basic picture...Cookie might be leaving me, as he and Ned are no longer getting along and friend that I got him from is losing one of hers. I think I did mention in my OP that I probably won't be able to get the lad in the advert, but just wondering about price.
I do not want to say any more on the subject because everything is still a big, fat MAYBE. There is a lot more to it than that, but as I also said in my OP, I didn't even want to get into it at all.

Sorry but I agree. You could find something much better than this guy. Just because he looks like ned doesn't mean you have to buy him.

As I said in my OP, I doubt I'll get him. I just have such fun visions of having matching horses! This thread really was to have a moan about POA and how much y'all think he's worth.

The poa is probably the seller being greedy. E.g if I put £300 then someone with £500 might come along. It's just a way to see how much they can get for the horse.

Unless of course it is ridiculously expensive in which case definitely not worth it. Unless it can muck out itself or has gold plated shoes :)

I hate to say it.......... but the fact hes on Dragon Driving and not a decent site would lead me to think that £450 would be a lot for him :( He is not a typical driving cob, nor is he a traditional driving horse.

I also think the fact he is for sale on dragon driving would make me think he would be fairly reasonable. He is also in a field with a load of coloured gypsy type horses, that would make me think cheap.
Mind you I find if you ring up these places with a strong accent they are cheaper than if you talk queens English :o

I think the owner knows it isnt worth a great deal and will tweak a price out of the air depending on the caller's accent or story!

I know you dont want to go in to it at the moment but i would look for another small pony, maybe not shetland size but something small-ish and maybe native.

Also dont underestimate the cost of getting your new horse home, therewill plenty of suitable horses nearby
Recently a hell of a lot of ponies were rehomed in your areafrom a stud where the owner got badly injured and so i would imagine that would have aknock on affect in the amount of ponies for sale locally

Not with a bargepole, even for fifty pence, with a headcollar thrown in...

This thread reminds me of the "I want to buy a foal to take pretty pictures" thread, Chan. You don't buy a horse just to get a matching pair (unless you're into driving a pair, in which case you buy something that isn't built like a yak anyway). And you certainly don't buy ponies when you can't afford vet / gelding bills...

Surely you'd be better finding someone to share your field if the shet does go anyway?

Honestly Chan I don't think you can post the threads you have been recently stating how much you are struggling and then not expect people to question your judgement when you suggest getting another horse just so you have two the same colour. It's ok saying you have enough grazing, but food and vets bills cost money.

I'm sorry but I wouldn't pay more than £200 quid for him but that isn't the point. Thinking back to the egg donation thread here - two horses means twice the feed, vets bills, vaccinations, grazing costs, etc.

I would agree with JFTD that you should be thinking about getting a field share rather than buying a second horse!

so what happens if you buy another one and Ned does not get on with that either?

if you get a field share then if they don't get on you can ask them to leave, or why not just get Cookie castrated?

I would love a field share but I cant. I said I will not go into more detail until I can, you're putting untrue facts into the situation. Do you not realise I'm joking about the colour thing?! And I was joking about the foal thing too. I have said more than once that it's highly unlikely ill get that horse, in fact its pretty impossible.
I can't stand when people put words in my mouth and make me,out to be the bad guy. I would not be so stupid as y9uoure making out.

I said i cant afford 3, but i can afford 2.
Please ignore typos.

Also, the main reason cookie is going back is because I'm helping my friend. Not because of his balls.
I'm still a month or so away from needing to find something. I'm toying with various options, some are more serious (full loan, anothee small pony) and others are more like this one...what was MEANT to be a fun thread about my dream of matching ponies.

Don't take this the wrong way but most of the messes that I have been asked to help with are from horses being bought for the wrong reasons, feeling 'sorry' for a horse, wanting matching horses etc is not a sensible reason to buy a horse. I know this is in the future but seriously take ye word for it, falling in love with an idea rarely works out the way you want it to in reality. I would steer clear of the sort of horse in the advert too, if you are not fussed about riding then it might be ok but horses are by nature walking vet bills. I couldn't afford two and I have a full time job with a house paid for by my employer!

I dont mind POA on ads, I often do it!

Mainly because if ive had an offer for the horse in the past or potentially whilst they are for sale its easier not to state a set price.

I have have an ideal price in my head to state offers around if people ask

I hate POA in ads, if I'm considering buying something the first thing I want to know is the price! I don't want to have to phone and discuss the potential purchase only to find I can't afford it. It's a waste of my time and money.

Chan, I have found this thread strange. I like reading your tales of Ned and Cookie. I never write threads like that myself because I like to remain anonymous. So I have a little envy over your ability to share. Then the thread starts going the way of you getting hassle and I'm once again glad to be anonymous! Because I imagine if you get hassle on here you get it IRL too. My first thought was that as Ned seems to be frequently injured and Cookie is a shetland, perhaps a relative had offered to fund a riding horse for you, leaving you no worse off financially than you were before. I don't know why others thought you weren't being sensible.

If it comes to it and you have you considered getting one from the blue cross? That way if they don't get on you have the possibility of swapping to a more suitable one.

Am I the only one who took the "matching horsies" as a joke?? :D

Chan I don't know what's going on with you/Ned/Cookie but maybe it would be better to hang fire on posting about the situation til you know more and then people won't be jumping to random conclusions ;) :)

It's really no ones business of what you can / can't afford! How does anyone know that she hasn't won the lottery??
The only thing I'd say is if you have to get another it may be best to have 3 and then one is never left alone!
I don't think the horse in the add is overly special but we all like different things.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

I just took the original post as asking about POA, because after daydreaming pony shopping (which I'm sure most of us do from time to time!) it got Chan thinking about whether POA would put people off etc. If she had just written "I am browsing horses for fun and I found this one that looks just like Ned, wouldn't it be a giggle if I had matching horses and what do you think of POA ads" then maybe people wouldn't have jumped to the conclusions they have. I think it's just a misunderstanding and miscommunication, I never once thought she was serious about buying that particular horse. Chin up Chan, I'm sure whatever situation you are in you will sort it out the best way you can :)

Ok great, you were joking - that's grand. You know humour doesn't translate well on here though ;) threads like this worry people because if you were serious it could be a really really bad move.

And the only reason people have commented on finances on here is because you have posted very recently about serious issues - not being able to afford vet bills, out of job, not being able to have the shet cut etc. if you have come into money, that's great, but if this is just the "new job spending spree" feeling (and I have succumbed to that before myself), a little reminder about how precarious employment can be and how easy it is to rack up vet bills etc may be helpful. I know you know this, but it is very easy to forget sometimes. I'm honestly not trying to get at you here, just trying to explain why alarm bells rung at your OP!

Only just seen this thread and I was thinking horseworld then saw kokos post about blue cross, both do ridden and unridden and I know horseworld don't judge if u need to send back, you could even get a companions and if Ned doesn't come right exchange for a ridden. Don't make life harder for yourself than u have to ...

If you are going to get another one how about one on loan from a charity? Esp if you lack the time to ride 2 how about a non ridden companion?

Sorry Koko didn't steal your idea just posted before reading whole thread!
