Does anyone know anything about what many people call a 'poached egg eye'? Its basically where the brown part of the eye is smaller than that of the other eye, so you can permanently see a very fine white edge of the brown part of the eye. My filly has this. Was wondering if this is what he classed as a horse 'showing the white of its eye' or whether that is a temporary expression as considered bad by many. Is this a genetic thing? Her sire has no family history of this as far as i know, but not sure about her mother? also in breeding.

Some sires are known to throw it, I believe.
It's not the same as 'showing the white of the eye', which indicates alarm, panic etc, in horses with poached egg eyes they show an extra amount of white all the time.
I had a good horse who went to Intermediate who had 2 poached egg eyes, he was one of the most confident horses i've ever known, so it wasn't ever an expression of fear.
It often goes with a wide blaze, I think.
Some people don't like it but I think it gives the horse character.

never known it to be a problem or any indication of character. I just known certain strains of arabians (and probably other breeds) have it and it tends to come through the lines of breeding. It's frowned on in the arab world but seems to make no difference to the horse. Is it also known as a 'human eye' ? That's what i have heard it called.

you learn something new everyday! my filly has white showing around her eyes and yes she has a large white blaze. It makes her look very cheeky and she feels the need to live upto the look!! Does that mean when she is naughty now I can call her Eggy!!

Probably can't see it in this pic - more pronounced in Kelvey because of his pirate's eye patch!

I have never heard this name for eyes before. I have appaloosas who, as part of their breed characteristics, always have white sclera around the outside of the eye - is this the same thing? Here are my two's eyes:-
