I came across this poem and it is sad and it makes my cry, but it is also comforting.

My cat was recently pts and there have been some forum horses whom we have said goodbye too and this is for them.

If It Should Be

If it should be I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you should do what must be done
For this last battle can’t be won.

You will be sad - I - understand
Don’t let your grieve then stay your hand,
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.

We've had so many happy years
What is to come will hold no fears,
You'd not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes - please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend,
Only stay with me to till the end,
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you too will see,
It is a kindness you do for me
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Do not grieve that it should be you
Who has decided this thing to do
We've been so close - we two-these years
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

Oh hb6 - mega hanky job again. That's so lovely. I've saved it with a few other poems members have posted when sad things happen. So sorry about your moglet. I wept buckets when Marks was pts and I've already written the next few weeks for Spencer in my head. Hope I'm just being overly bleak xxx

thats really sad

Sorry guys it is sad, yet comforting.

B - I hope your poem for Spencer will not be needed for a very long time.

I replied to your post about him. I know how you are feeling.
I hope he makes a quick recovery.

My thoughts are with you.

Made me cry.

I remember so well having my collie put to sleep, and my labrador before that. Iv'e also had 2 cats killed on the road recently and they were both young.

The feelings never go but get easier to bear as time goes by.

It is the last loving thing we can do for our pets.

Seems wrong that people have to suffer, when all hope has gone.

Jane

I hope this does bring comfort to those who have lost or had the most difficult of decisions to make for an animal.
