Hello all knowledgable breeding forum! Just wondering if I can pick your brains on Poetic Justice as an eventing sire? Anyone have/know anything by him? All I have found with my limited googling capabilities is the BE records of the horses mentioned in the above link. Information/opinions good or bad on attitude, ability, quirks, movement and so on greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have a Poetic Justice mare which i bred sadly she fractured a knee as a yearling so sadly has only ever been a broodmare.
Compared to the other foals out of the same mare she is opinionated and a bit of a madam but i do believe she would have made a good competition horse.
She doesnt think about it she just does it even if that includes things you dont want them to do .
Anyway when the british data base was running Poetic Justice was the leading TB sire of showjumpers for a number of years .
My mare is good conformation , excellent movement but definately a little bit of a madam as are most of the PJ's i have ever met.
They are talented though.
Poetic Justice is by High Top who was known for bing a bit of a bugger himself in fact most High Top horses are known for being rather sharp.
But one interesting fact for you Miners Frolic is by a stallion called Miners Lamp who in turn is also by High Top.
So there is a link there as Miners Lamp has also produced quite a lot of talented indidviduals

I used to work with and specifically look after Miner's Lamp. He could be quite the tricky customer!! You could NOT pull his mane (the solo comb was invented for him!) He was a good fun horse, in as much as he kept you on your toes! I was 19/20 when I worked with him, as we he lol - not sure I would have liked him as a younger horse though. That said, if there is any of his semen around, I wouldn't hesitate to use it on B (also sharp), as I loved working with his children!

Thanks _SN_, all worth knowing.. Seems like we have some good old eventer quirks going on!

Sharp I don't mind so much, overly opinionated/stubborn or nasty is what I'd like to avoid..

I have a poetic Justice mare rising 4. She'll be broken this winter. She is as Sally f said, opinionated. She's also highly intelligent. Fantastic movement and was touching 17hh as a 3 year old.
I couldnt find much on him either on google.
Pictures of her last winter, at just 3.

pm me for more pics

Thanks AimeeLou, the term opinionated worries me to a certain extent, I can't stand being walked all over or pushed about, but then my last mare, by Shaab was hugely opinionated but quick to learn and not rude after learning walking all over mummy was unacceptable behaviour.. Difficult one, eh? I'd rather have something with a brain xc any day too. Please post as many pics as you like or pm them, they're very insightful! I find looking at things under 3 very difficult as they're quite often going through that gangly stage; your mare looks very sweet though and she's going to be a lovely big (very big!) tb stamp of a mare. What's her dam made of too?

Hi i have a beautiful mare aged 7 by poetic justice, she has a great laid back attitude on the whole, she is extremely talented with 3 amazing paces definitely bred for eventing (we are starting pre-novice next season) and a bold jump, she has attitude she knows she is nice but i wouldnt hesitate in recommending her breeding as she is very trainable and loves her work, she is a great horse to own very loving, i will try and post some pics if i can, she is a good 16.2/16.3. lucy

Be very interested to know more about your mare, Lucy. Am in the process of buying a six year old Poetic Justice 16hh mare to hunt and event.
