I have the hit air jacket, it is soft shell but quite frankly you can't wash them, only sponge down so the arm pits get rather pongy ?. Luckily mine was on offer with a soft shell gilet too and that is what I use. If I was buying again I would probably just buy the vest type one that can go over anything. As it is I have to squeeze a waterproof jacket underneath or wear it over without zipping it up. They look smarter but in my opinion not that practical.

I have the hit air one, they often have returns/ reconditioned cheaper on their website too. Have the same warranty as the brand new ones.
However, I wont wear it, as the noise when it goes off is really loud, and my mare was frightened when I tried it on the yard.I’m worried she would bolt off if I fell off On a ride......

I always ride in an air jacket.

I have a Helite gilet originally purchased when the original jacket design was still a bit frowned on. The gilet is fine except in hot weather. I nearly fainted after a summer lesson hence I purchased a second hand Point 2. I use the gilet in cold or wet weather as the outer is easy to wash and the basic jacket in summer.

It is good that when I send one for servicing I can continue to ride.

It’s always a balancing act isn’t it - I do get off if the situation is getting out of control on the roads and my concern is I won’t have time to unhook before dismounting! But my husband has offered to pay for one ?as he would feel happier.

I have the Helite gilet. I've only had it since January so haven't worn it in hot weather yet but I'm pleased with it. It looks a bit bulky, not helped by me buying a bigger size so I could put my body protector underneath when I finally start going XC. I think I look about 4 months pregnant in it - you know the stage where you can't decide if someone's put on a bit of weight or is actually pregnant! - but it's very comfy and the inner bit zips out easily so you can wash the gilet part.

I have one of the older Point 2 air jackets and I wear it all year even in the hottest weather with no issue. I’ve got off a few times when things have gone pear shaped as an alternative to being chucked off and I’ve been able to unclip ok. I’ve fallen off once and inflation was fine and did not spook the horse any further. I don’t really notice wearing it anymore. Not seen the soft-shell but sounds hot and less versatile.

The HIT Air covers more of your body and is lighter to wear. I think it inflates quicker in a fall and I simply prefer that one to the look of the Point Two Air Jacket although it was more expensive.
I compared and tried on both when I was at Your Horse Live following a bad fall the month before that I am still paying for 7 years later and which could easily have resulted in paralysis. To me the cost which was around £240 was worth every penny and because I got it at that event I also got three gas cartridges and a spare lanyard as well.

Can anyone share their maths for Spillers being cheaper than Pro Earth please?
.
I considered spillers but when fed at the correct rate so that the horse would actually get the correct level of vit/mins Pro Earth (pro balance) worked out cheaper and lasted longer.

I understand if you feed less than the recommended amount spillers will last longer and therefore work out cheaper per day but then there isnt much point in feeding it below the required rate unless I'm missing something major?

I went to Blenheim and tried on all the air jackets. The Hit Air did not fit me as I am short in the body. The decision was therefore easy.
