Is there a book for point to pointing for dummies?

I'm just interesting in finding out more.

I know the horse and rider need qualification certificates from their hunt. If a horse is not full tb can it only run in.hunt members or club classes.

I've looked on the obvious web site.

What I can't see is what races or "classes" are at each meeting.

Can a non tb run in other hunts members or club races. Or only for the hunt they got their qualification? So if your hunt does one meet a year you can only do that one?

Sorry as I said "dummie"!

Anything else you can think of?

Hi, yes a non tb can only do hunt members races and only the one that they've qualified for but they are highly unlikely to be anything other than making up the numbers. Hunt races can be just as fast as the other races on the card which usually consist of ladies and mens opens, maidens, restricted, and a club members or something similar. Anything else you want to know just ask ......

Thanks bonny.

I've read something about them having to be weatherbys registered.
My horse is on the non tb register.

Also I thought that once they had thier hunter certificate they could run in other hunts races, but suppose that's for the tbs!
To run in a hunt members race they need to be a member of that hunt!

Just a bit confusing!

This is the bit I'm confused about!

What kind of horse can take part?Except for Hunt Members races, all horses which run in Point-to-Points need to have been registered by Weatherbys - in the General Stud Book (G.S.B.) or Non-Thoroughbred Register (N.T.R.), and to hold an official passport that shows details of their birth, parentage and their appearance. The passport must contain DEFRA Medical Pages, and they must be up-to-date with all required injections.

My horse is registered with weatherbys on the non tb register.
Hes not full tb.
So he can he run in hunt members races?
The paragraph taken from the web site implies he can run in any race not just the members!

If they could run in all hunt races then they could run every week ! The idea behind the ruling is that it's cheaper if you just do the one members race, although I use the term cheaper, it's still alot of money.....how much tb blood has your horse got ?

Just seen your latest post, if your horse is registered with weatherbys then he can run in any race but all the horses he would be up against are tb's and it's too hard for any horse who isn't full tb, imo.

Wetherby's Registered Non-Tb's can race under rules too. It just means that whilst they are at least 7/8ths tb they are not pure tb. It doesn't mean that there is no point in racing them. A lot of National Hunt horses are Non-TB's ... *cough*Kauto Star*cough* and they are not all useless in the slightest! My Non-TB won 7 races under rules over 2 miles.

SOH - what is your horses registered name or does he/she not have one yet? If not what are the parents?

Thanks EKW.
That's interesting to know.

I was registered on the weatherbys site and have gotten free and paid for reports before.
But it wants me to re register my payment details which I havent got around to doing.
They should just accept paypal!
