Point to Pointing Tips

Is it your first season? If so, good luck:)

My top tips are:

get yourself really really fit (lots of cycling and running and not too much alcohol) and

don't tie your stock too tight - adopt a race riding position whilst you are doing it up so you know you can breathe :D

if you are a novice, try to stay out of the way, but

don't be too intimidated by the more experienced jockeys as they will try to psych you out;)

:)

Be fitter than you think possible!
And always ride positively, there's no time for hesitation.
Don't get intimidated at the start, if your not sure how your horse will cope then stay out wide and out of trouble.
Try choosing a 12st race for your first run, the weignt will slow the race down and give you a bit more breathing space.

Not sure about my first run but I think we will be heading to Whitwick Manor mid Feb.

Sorry just read rowreach's post!

Interesting tips!
About tying the stock too tight, I am still recovering from hunting a fortnight ago when I tied my stock so tight I actually have a cut and bruise on my neck!! Good days hutning so I did actually notice I was being strangled, though it looks like somethiong else :O

I have to get fitter, after the 2nd horse galloping today I was knackered, he's horribly strong!

I used to rub some sand on the inside of my knees just before a race. It really gives some extra grip . Shiney nylon racing breeches are like glass when new, use them lots before you race .

Yeah I found the hard way about that! New breeches and suede saddle, Genius!

BTW you would get *******ed now for balancing on your knees!
