POINT TWO AIRBAG BODY PROTECTOR

Point taken Millitiger - although his behaviour is impeccable on the road - cars backfiring havent worried him at all - neither do rattling trailers etc. Yes he isn't too keen on birdscarers but only jumps a bit. I think it was the proximity issue - or a combination of shying/me coming off his side and then the BANG.

Or maybe he is just too darned fit at the moment.....

I think I should make it clear that I am not blaming the Point Two entirely - just giving my experience with it and being cautious about its future use when out hacking. If it happens again and I don't have the Point Two on, I may very well reconsider things. Since I haven't fallen off the horse before, this is my first experience of his reaction to decanting his rider.

Lots of desensitisation already underway!!

That's partly my thinking (and secretly I think I'd enjoy it, though whether I'd be good at it, is another matter :cool:). thanks though, you're literally the first person not to say something negative about it :o

I think this could be a bigger factor than the P2 tbh.

Some horses do panic when the rider decides to unmount at speed and without warning.

My tb was a horror when she was younger and as soon as you were on the floor she was off at high speed and even if I managed to keep hold she would drag me until I let go.

Actually the very first time she DIDN'T run off was when the P2 inflated- since then, with and without the P2, she has stayed with me after decking me .
Fingers crossed it continues (or I stop being deposited! :o)
 
Always best to keep the horse between oneself and the ground!! Thanks for that posting. Maybe it was the shock of me decanting. No idea why I came off him this time - he was a master of spin as a four year old - very often I didn't know whether I was coming or going - and really up until some 6 months ago when he has finally started to grow up. I think it was the full circle that got me this time - or the fact that we were trotting just before he span - maybe I was just rising when he "twirled" !!! Anyway my unblemished record has gone. Darn.
 
So THAT'S what was in the air when I was at Burghley last year - come to think of it, it WAS near the HitAir stand. Makes me think of that cartoony film - can't for the life of me think what it was but there was a song with it "Im floating in the air" - for some reason I see a snowman. Oh my God - I've been working too hard clearly. If anyone knows which film I mean they are Pure Genius!!

there's an idea. I'm off to the party shop at lunch time. Party poppers; those thingies you blow and they uncurl; streamers; the lot. I'll tell the horse it's his birthday and all kiddies have such treats......
 
They won't not sell you one at our local tack shop before fitting it and making it off to check the fit and let you hear the noise. I really wish more suppliers took this approach and I would always advise people to buy in person from a shop and get them to set it off.

Luckily the noise does not effect my horse (OK I admit I have done the idiot thing of dismounting prior to unclipping), I suspect though this could be as he is stabled in an area where there is a lot of shooting - I have also had a jumping lesson whilst the next door farm decided to have a firework display so he might not be "normal". It does make me think though that it would be possible to desensitise horses to the noise if you could find something similar enough. Though I have to agree with Miss L Toe - you'd have to be fairly loaded to use the cannisters at £20 a pop!!
 
I fall quite often and after intensive research I found a website that sells the exact same canisters Point Two supplies for £11.5 :) www.airbag-canisters.co.uk
Falling should not be a LUXURY.
If someone sells them for this price, he is still making a margin... imagine how much P2 makes for a margin...
