Arghh. I work on a rota system so I have irregular days off. It is our busiest time of year at the mo so only one day off a week, which was today. Arrived at yard around 10am (YO turns out early) to ride, to be met with 15 youngsters on a stable management course using the school. Head round the corner and another 10 are being taught yard duties, and using my bloody wheelbarrow!!! So I couldn't muck out and couldn't ride my boy as I had planned. Weekday mornings are usually blissfully peaceful with only me and one member of staff there, and we had received absolutely no notice of the event today so I wasn't very impressed. Grrrrrrr.

No rant is pointless! I can practically see the steam coming out of your ears from here, and I am not surprised, you should definitely have been notified. And I am sorry but I would have got my wheelbarrow back!

Mmmmm.. I'd have strolled over and duly collected my wheelbarrow back... and then I'd have tacked up and gone out for a hack...or was this not possible OP? ...or did you specifically want to use the arena?

Did end up riding outside, we got drenched! Just annoying as I couldn't do what I had planned and I really think that I should expect some notice! I am much too polite to demand the return of my wheelbarrow unfortunately :(

Poor you, it's not nice when you have time planned out of your busy schedule to enjoy with your horse and your plans get thwarted. I'm afraid I'd have politely marched in and joking said whoever had hold of my wheelbarrow had to come and muck my stable out for me, then I'd have just gone and had some quiet snuggles with my horse in the field if you couldn't use the school or hack out.

I used to frequently turn up at the last yard I was on thinking fabulous I can ride on the indoor as the owner used to throw her horse into the outdoor for turnout (poor thing never saw a blade of grass!) and then find that the indoor had been booked for an external instructor who had a constant stream of people arriving in wagons and trailers throughout the day for their lessons. Couldn't hack out as my mare didn't do solo hacks.

I'd be having a very nice chat with the YO to ask if they could give liveries a little notice for such future events.
