pointless.. but has (probably irrationally) made me cross!!

My 18 month old bitch is in season at the moment.

I visited a friends yard yesterday and when I explained to my friend why I had left the pooch at home I was basically jumped on my 2 old biddies telling me to bring her back today so their sprocker / jug could mate her and make some money.

I explained that she was a border terrier so therefore not going to be put with a mongrel and I was told that crossbreeds are worth more money anyway.

I explained that she is only 18 months old. Apparently this is the perfect time for her to breed.

I told them that she is not breeding quality as she is not work / show proven. They just looked at me like I was bonkers.

These women were easily in their 50s and got quite p*ssed off with me for not agreeing to let their mongrels get busy with my precious pooch.

Serious head desk day.

BTW the jug was the ugliest dog I have ever seen.
 
I would have been cross as well, one of my pet hates.

LML its not ladies of a certain age with this mindset it seems to be right across the age spectrum. Its just plain ignorance and Ive never known this kind of thinking to be so widespread.
 
The situation is just crazy and getting worse with these cross breeds, I swear there are as many of them being bred as there are pure breds. :mad: All people seem to be thinking about is the money.
As Dg says it isn't just us "old biddies" (yikes do I really qualify for that title) it seems to be people of every age who think its a good idea.
 
It makes me mad as well when they are payiing £400 - £500 for cross breeds. They cross anything with anything as well having no idea what the dogs will turn out like.

The new fashion that any idiot can do without having to lay out a lot of money or knowing about the dog breeds with are crossing with.

Oh poo! Sorry, I was mightily peeved re-living my harassment, did not mean to offend with the old biddies comment:o

The 'jug' was 'purebred' but from what I could see it was jrt x pug.

ETA - the reason I mentioned the age of the women as because I was shocked at their attitudes. They are well respected horsewomen and I really thought they had more brains than that!
