If anyone on this forum is a manufacturer of horse boots, or people boots for that matter, that fasten with velcro, why do you make them so the straps are so long that only a fraction of the two halves of velcro touch and stick together? The rest of the sticky bit is always on top of the material, making it go all bobbley, and there is a load of the furry bit on the strap just flopping about at the side of the boot.

Now I know I'm buying the right size boots because smaller ones wouldn't go half way up my horses' legs and I know what size my feet are, yet I am bl**dy sick of this problem with velcro. It's not even like its due to my horses' delicate pins and my svelte ankles because WE DON'T HAVE THEM, we are fairly substantial girls!

So, boot and shoe makers, why do you do it? If the boots are the right size and shape, surely you can manage to get the velcro in the right place???? Or is it just me with this issue?

I know what you mean, my bandages where so long I cut 3/4 of it off but now the ends have all come apart!

Not only does it bobbley it gets hay and other c**p stuck in them and when they walk they get caught on the other leg and come undone (if bandages) ?!?!?!

Velcro is used for quickness and convenience.
When I first trained we had to hand make and hand stitch all our horse boots, knee pads etc out of leather EVERYTHING was butt leather, thick elastic, felt lined and buckled up with leather straps. It takes alot longer to make one pair (even with alot done on a sewing machine) compared to neoprene, plastic and velcro all machined and no hand stitching
The manufacturer's of all saddlery today aren't necessarily Saddlers and haven't always had the same training as we have, (saddlery design, construction and manufacture, horse anatomy, material sciences, Lorinery, etc) so don't always appreciate how to design and make items. This goes across ALL Saddlery, it's not just confined to boots.
I think they try to give you the long straps you mention so as to fit a variety of different shaped horses, this cuts down on costs (back to money again!) where as in the old days we would have measured up the horse and made them to fit, everything is of course now mass produced off the peg!
Hope this makes you feel better after your rant?
