ok, muppet question but I've not had a very pointy nose breed before. Is there thought to be a better type of bowl for them? Each of mine has a bolted in bowl in the crates, off the floor about 3 inches.

sometimes after Fitz has a drink he seems to get water up his nose. I do remember reading somewhere a poodle person saying they needed bowls with a good depth (which theirs do) so they don't take in too much air but I can't remember where. Am I overthinking-is he just drinking too fast? they don't really have flip top heads like goldies or setters :)

my whippet happily drinks from a normal depth bowl, but her favourite bowl is the one she has in the bathroom which is only about an inch deep. my bedlington drinks from anything, including muddy puddles and the toilet! I wouldnt worry about it :0)

Can't tell you about Smooth Collies drinking habits obviously but have had plenty of whippets and lurchers including one at the moment. They drink from anything, any depth , just the same as the flatcoats. Perhaps he just hasn't got a very good technique!

My lot are quite long nosed and manage fine, although one is very jowly and leaves trails of water everywhere. They have a bog standard aluminium bowl.

Mr Jowly, I just posted it on the springer post, any excuse!

My greyhound drinks from a standard aluminium bowl. She also drinks from the toilet or anything else she can try to get her head in!!

My dogs prefer shallow bowls as they can get the water easier hence the drinking from puddles which I hate as you have no idea what is in them

he's adorable, but he's not got a really pointy nose :P

I actually think the bowl is the wrong shape for him-its deep but not that big across-I've not noticed him have a problem in the bog standard stainless steel bowls I have in the kitchen and garden.

It's the pointy nose Marmite factor- what one loves, the other will not tolerate in any shape or form! Mine likes a deep plastic bowl, with fresh water after having his dinner. We have 'tragic face' if its not fresh.

And all I can think is " I've seen you slurp up cow pat juice, you big girl, when you thought I wasn't looking"

Have a look at Road Refresher bowls, they are designed to only have a little bit of water come through at a time (as the dog licks, more water comes through the little holes). It means that 1) they can't scarf it down really fast and cough and 2) the mouth rivers that a jowly dog can create are a thing of the past. You can also use them on car rides as they won't tip over if you use the fixers underneath, (and if they do not much comes out).

I got ours for the mouth river problem and it's solved that perfectly.
