Would anyone know where I could find a Poitevin gelding/stallion as I would love to own one. Or would it be possible to find out any French horse sales that could be selling to meat men?

I'm not sure 100% where to buy one though look in the Charente maritime and deux sevres . I do however know that you are highly highly unlikely to find them going to the meat man. They are valuable in France and globally for several reasons. They are still a very rare breed. Are often used to create the Poitou mule which are also valuable and are fantastic in their own right. If you are interested I would take a trip to the Poitou region of France and investigate :)

Have you tried French horse ads websites like findyourhorse? There are also groups on FB that advertise horses otherwise going to the meat man ("chevaux à sauver" or "chevaux a sauver de la boucherie") one of them had 2 heavy colts for sale this Summer (they don't own the horses, only put the ads up from owners who have to sell). I am afraid I disagree Rocky, the heavies are likely to go to the meat man unless they find a private home wanting a big leisure horse as the mule industry is not what it used to be before the industrial revolution.

Some stallions/gelding are going to meat men as not too many stallions are needed for the breeding of mares. The mares are the truly valuable ones (so I'm told) as they are the ones producing the mules.

Are the prices min and max? Or is the horse definitely priced between the two?

If you click the ad you will get the price ("prix de vente") which is within the range given in the listing. Don't forget it's euros so it's about a third less in pounds. Can recommend Parker for transport if you get tempted ;).
