Sorry that this is a long winded post, but it's a subject close to my heart. I'm also chuffed to see Grafenstolz is coming to the UK, for all UK breeders.

I am sorry but standing in Germany did make him accessible for the UK breeders, had they wished to use him. Dont get me wrong he has achieved a lot and I am sure he will fill a gap in the market over here but like I say its not like his semen was not available before, AND at a lower price.

I maybe wrong in my presumptions but I am guessing that the Casper Family realised that their gamble with him being a successful eventing sire in Germany was not going to pay off, despite his achievements. As they did say that it was a gamble buying him because they were not sure whether the breeders would take to him.

BTW, I am sorry has anyone read the editorial in Horsemart?

UK’s leading semen agent Ken

I mean the editorial had to be written by someone outside of Horsemart to come up with the above quote

How does he know he is the leading semen agent without knowing the statistics of others? Talk about "spin doctor".

A lot of the Horsemart editorial is submitted by customer's as they have not got an editorial staff per se...as such that particular article would in fact have been likely written by Ken himself or by someone for him.....it just makes me laugh as I had heard that an ‘exclusive’ editorial scoop on just this was offered to a well known mag AFTER this was published!!!!

That bit DID make me laugh actually as especially in light of recent issues how does that statement have ANY credibility???

Nomis's first point is also part of what I was trying to say.....he WAS accessible in Germany as well as being cheaper....so from a money POV it makes no sense to move him to a country where it is more expensive to stand a stallion...just none....

I believe that the owner himself has said that it costs significantly less to stand a stallion in France, and to collect from him .... so whilst its great to have Grafenstolz over here, and therefore viewable at stallion parades, etc, it might have allowed his stud fee to be lower had he stayed with his new owner in France. Lower VAT rate also, presumably. Same point as above - perfectly possible for UK breeders to receive chilled/frozen semen from him were he to be based in either Germany or France. On the other hand, I wonder how many continental European breeders will use him now he is standing in the UK?
