Polework/raised polework - questions!

Following last night antics with piggles attempting a long jumping record over a row of 3 raised trotting poles I am wondering if I am getting things wrong… How many baby steps (one foot right in front of other steps) would you do between poles for a 15hh cob? Also when raising these should I put more space between them? Finally how many poles would you put out for a little monkey who see's 3 poles in a row as being a fairly straightforward spread?

I would do 4/5 poles, have you tried alternating the ends that are lifted so first pole left side lifted, second pole right side lifted. and so on
