We had a retired household calvary horse years ago. He was totally and utterly bombproof, with one notable exception- he was terrified of sheep!

I had a similar horse. Bought from a yard that was under the Heathrow flight path. Horse was a proper city boy, 100% at a competition and manners to die for. I took him home to rural Worcestershire and he was convinced sheep and cattle were the work of the devil.

Years ago I did a weeks worth experience with the Police horses and at the end of the week they let me have a go on one, he was such a nice horse! I felt really smug because his normal rider said he probably wouldn't canter for me and I got him to straight away :p
He was so lovely, I wanted to take him home (although maybe a little big!)

Sadly the horse section has since been closed there, I always wondered what happened to him.

I hope this one finds a nice home!

I now have this wonderful image in my head of a "townie" ex-police horse turning up at his new home in the country with a sparkly pair of new wellies but no real clue.................................!!

Our lockdown purchase wasn’t a police horse but he was definitely a townie - traffic, lorries, cones, bin men etc are absolutely fine, but Nature in its many varied forms is terrifying, especially sheep!

Blimey, you'd have thought there was enough going on at the moment to not need to be writing an article about a police horse for sale. Hopefully it will help him find a lovely home though :)

I don't think that Tommy will be a typical "townie" horse. Sheffield and the surrounding towns (and cities, Doncaster!) have a lot of green space.
