Police Horses on Duty Today- HURRAH !!

he's holding it together so well - maybe he's the top lad ? It is just so wonderful to see these horses working, in relation to what is actually going on atm. I would have ADORED being a mounted copper.

Those horses and riders are great!

But - what a bloody disgrace. These thugs behave worse than animals. I think that ALL games should be played behind closed doors all the time this violence is occuring. FFS it's a bloody GAME, what the hell is wrong with people??? I have always said football is now nothing but a yob's game. Shame taxpayers money is wasted on policing this lot - maybe the clubs should pick up the police bill, they sure as hell can afford it if they cut the obscene amounts they pay the players. There is nowhere near this type of violent behaviour from followers of other sports, so what has gone wrong with football?

I was amazed at the footage - truly bomb-proof horses, and something to be very proud of. I wonder what breeds they use, and their training techniques, to create such calm but bold horses? Some retired mounted cop needs to write a book, and give us some tips. I'd be very proud to have such wonderful police horses on the beat where I live.

And as for the bloke who had a go at the horse... I can tell you now I'd have tracked down the little swine and given him something well-earned to remember!

I'd struggle to see how they could replace horses and the impact they have in that scenario. Fact is they are intimidating especially to a non horsey yob!

Watching the footage of those horses bearing down on the crowd, I think we'd ALL feel intimidated. Wonderful, bold beasts!

Just watched the footage, and I agree - they looked very intimidating cantering down the street towards the mob! There were plenty of police dogs in the footage too :)

After watching the football at the Olympics last year there were some police horses there just in case and I couldn't believe the size of them! Got talking to the police woman on board one and she told me all about her horses breeding and how they're kept etc. it was fascinating! Have so much respect for both the riders and horses

Those scruffy little barstools setting off a bomb thing near horses!!!! Sadly these are the type of people that also drive on the roads. No thought for the safety of anyone.

And that man that plowed into the horse!!! Grrrrr. You could tell the policeman that floored him wasn't too impressed either. If it has been my horse he would have been swallowing my stirrups irons.

Amazing brave horses.

1 horse has the effect of 10 officers or something apparently.

What I find most interesting is the difference between rugby games and football games. There have been mounted police at Twickenham for the last 5 games I've been to and not one has ever been in full riot kit...

There's an mounted police branch on Facebook, it's Lancashire I think. They often do competitions for people to go and see the horses in training and to meet them etc. maybe it's time we beg them to pick us?? :D

IMHO, the death of Mrs Thatcher has become the excuse for a National Riot. I am not into politics, but I do adore people watching, and more importantly horse watching. I think my little lad (if he'd been 4 hands taller) could have been a little War Horse ;)

Tankgirl - I'm not on FB, can you put link on here ?

And yet the government are trying to get rid of them.....

They were the only thing that made a dent in the London riots

There is a march to protest getting rid of them at Beverley race course in may :)

AHA, well I have a feeling that Police Horses may well be staying ;) I used to watch them at Imber Court (esher) out for their rides, and think "they have chain reins to stop them being stolen" and stuff like that - was in awe from a very young child.

Sadly i used to groom at the essex mounted branch which was disbanded.

The horses were all amazing and it all comes down the how much they trust the officers. They form a close bond.

Sadly - our Notts Mounted Division was disbanded last year - sold off.

They used to be stabled very near to us and would bring their fabulous police horses out to our woods for a good blast .... but no more :(

Miss going into town armed with polos to treat the Equine Police Officers on a Saturday afternoon ...

But I'm soo glad other forces have kept them :D:D:D:D

I've gone to football pretty much every other saturday for eleven years and always take time out to chat to some of the mounted coppers, I've got to know some quite well (especially one lady who had the only grey in the yard for three-four years) they are very proud of their horses and chat to me about their training, breeding and what they get up to in retirement.
They are amazingly brave.

I had to turn the video off half way through. Those proud, brave horses and dogs having to front up to the scum of the earth turns my stomach. I did like the bit though where the solo guy had a pop at a horse and got literally jumped on by a copper.

Amazing horses and the riders and ground police do a brilliant job.
Even being horsey if 10 of those big boys charged at me i would be off!
When i was about 3 at my village school we had 2 police horses come to one of the fairs i was stroking one and just walked under that one to get the next my mum was horrified!

Incredibly brave horses and riders, I have so much respect for them! They truly are amazing.
(On a side note, footage like this makes me sick! Disgusting behaviour, it's mad to believe people behave like this over a football game when there's SO much going on in the world. Absolute scumbags, it's just awful.)
