I think there is a waiting list or something that you have to join in order to rehome ex-police and ex-services horses.

Don't be fooled into thinking they are easy, bombproof rides though, as some can be quite challenging. A lady near us has a lovely ex police horse that she has hunted, but now just hacks out, and he is a complete pyscho!! You wouldn't guess for a minute that he was an ex police horse. Apparently he was in the procession for Princess Di's funeral.

Often the officers re-home them too and I think they take priority over civvies.

I had a 'failed' police horse as my first competition horse and he was an idiot with parked vehicles!

I heard the majority of them go home with thier officers as they have such a great bond, i mean you'd have to when presented with such difficult situations however there is a field of them in a rescue centre on dartmoor with our lovely old boy copperfield! Most of them are from bristol.

Hi where abouts are you from i work for merseyside and we have got quite a few due to retire soon one in my sig pulling his tongue out.
If no officers or stanble hands want the horses that are due to retire we look at anyone suitable wanting a retired horse and also use ILPH and other retirement homes PM me your details and what your looking for if you are intersted

Manchester police horses used to be re-homed through the ILPH near Blackpool but now they go somewhere down South. The Police sometimes sell them when they are too young to retire but police life doesn't suit them or, they just don't make the grade. Might be worth ringing your local mounted section?
