From the weapons, firecrackers and all the other missiles these yobs were throwing it clearly was never intended to be a peaceful demonstration. Those police horses are so brave.
Those horses & police officers are so brave, one officer has serious neck injuries after falling from his horse. If you throw fireworks & missiles at the police, sorry you deserve all you get, hopefully a good hard crack with a night stick. There are lots of things in life that I feel are unfair to my personal circumstances, but I don't attack the police
If these students are our future doctors & lawyers then I despair,
that is a really scary thought
There are very many thousands probably millions of people who disagree with the raising of the fees and do not want their views displayed in this manner.
I don't see how it was effective? they just ended up in between 2 yobs of scum and they didn't really go anywhere. Then they were kinda trapped and being pelted from all sides instead of 1. The crowd didn't disperse... and the police and horses got injured.
They are incredibly brave, but bravery doesn't mean they did the right thing. Lets get one thing right, horses do not appreciate the gratitude the same as people do. And imo they were put at a greater risk than needed there by a stupid tactical move.
ETS of course it is the horrible scum 'students' fault the police/ horses got injured (not that i beleive many of the violent ones would have been actual students) but the police job is to deal with them effectively.
Not quite as simple as it looks. The officers trying to hold the crowd back were all wearing hats not helmets. The crowd turned aggressive and they were not in a position to stop and don their helmets.they would have been immediately overrun if they had tried. The horses were used in a well disciplined formation and I would guess it gave the officers on foot a moments breathing space to reorganise. You will notice that they have their helmets on when their cordon reforms
they are not the future lawyers, doctors who will just be the rich elite who can afford £9k per year in fees.
Then they should have been better prepared on foot too. There's been loads of violent demonstrations, why expect this one to be any different? It may have given those on foot time to catch their breath, but it gave those on horseback a battering!
If you start by wearing riot gear it is a lot harder to keep a peacefull protest peacefull.
Those who make peaceful protest impossible will make violent protest inevitable
I may be reading this wrong, but are you implying that only the rich elite want to/can be lawyers or doctors? or that with this bill change that is all who will be??
I thought that the amount of fees paid would only be decided once you had graduated and started earning??? completely agree though that those who are rioting seem to have little or no idea or care about what they are protesting about....
I mean with the new Bill courses such as medicine will attract the higher cap ie £9k per year and this would mean a medicine course costing £45K - (before any living expenses)therefore this would deter many less wealthy students from applying and this is wrong. People of all social class should aspire to further their education and not be deterred by cost. The £21K earnings cap mean that anyone earning an average wage or above will be paying back the fees
