You need to look in "Latest News" there is a huge thread in there with people trying hard to raise awareness of this.

Sorry I didn't read properly - you know it's in there. Frustrating that it's do difficult to get this item "out there"

The eyewittness account (in a comment at the bottom of the story) is awfull! If they have the pictures they suggest then this has the ability to get alot worse still.

Thanks for re-posting LEH89 - one of the comments suggested posting in NL as not everyone looks in LN. It's being kept very quiet - and all very odd.
I've contacted a few papers, as have other posters and we've all had little response?

Yes thanks for posting SirenaXVI, as I don't look in latest news and knew nothing of this until now...

And what can I say.. I am sickened and outraged! I am just so upset, 25mins is making me feel sick.

Please, please include me in anything anyone is doing.

Maybe like someone said we should send a letter with all out signatures, I mean all of us on here could bring this up and make it as public as possible.

x

This sounds a lot like a very misjudged situation - The RSPCA should have been on hand as well as the Vet should have stayed to assist. As to How many shots were fired again unless you were there the true amount will never really be known - The whole thing must have been very stressful and upsetting for all concerned and the police marks man obviuosly didn't have a clue how to deal with live frightened and stressed out animals.

Lets hope a lot will be learnt from this and in future a similar situation will be dealt with in a much more humane and safe way. We cannot undo what has been done and I for one am horrified at the way it appears to have benn handled. Big Learning curve.

OMG! Did you read the eyewitness statement in the comments section - something needs to be done! This has really upset me, that anyone can cause that much agony to a horse and these are the Police! Surely they must have had training to deal with loose animals and chasing them in 4x4's they must have known would scare them more!!

I don't know if a photo of the poor guy after the event is evidence enough to run a story against the police (must be a journalists on this forum somewhere that could shed some light?)

A good journalist would not set out to write an article"against "the police. He would invite them to put their side of the story forward ,alongside other accounts of what happend.Of course if they refused to comment,he could not be accused of bias if he ran only the eyewitness account.I am surprised this has not gone further but perhaps the matter is already subject to an investigation.

brainless blonde moment - sorry SerenaXVI, wasn't deliberate.
I was trying to multitask (i'm working at the same time, and doing things in a hurry inbetween conference calls, hence my error)

Thankyou for posting in New Lounge.

The BHS do training for fire fighters etc on how to deal with loose horses. Perhaps we should be contacting then to ask how we can campaign to get the police trained too?

Disgusting. Triggar happy marksmen. Probably went home humming the theme tune to GI Joe, sat down with a glass of wine and polished his gun ready for the following morning. These 'marksmen' are trained to shoot a human in the face from a mile away....a horse's head is bigger and slightly more distintive looking (!) what is their excuse for shooting the horse 19 times in various parts of the body over a 25 minute period?????????

I'm guessing 'resident vet James Christie' will lose a lot of business for comending this decision, he should have offered to tranquilise in my opinion.

Poor, poor creatures.

Exactly should of been tranquilised, i'm sure that would of been easier than trying to get a clean shot to kill them outright as they say they were frightened and moving around alot I guess.

Made me feel sick and very cross those poor horses did not deserve that at all, hardly their fault their owner had died and his family wanted nothing to do with them, totally disgusting.

With this and the story of pins/screws in apples I shudder to think what this so called civilised world is coming to.

Can I suggest that concerned people directly email the North Yorkshire Police general enquiries address (general.enquiries@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk) indicating your disgust at the way these horses were treated? I suggest you ask for your email to be passed to Superintendent Andy Mulligan who is coordinating an investigation into the incident- and don't be put off by a placatory email that may come your way shortly afterwards- insist the email is sent to the Superintendent for consideration. Let's demonstrate how much we deplore the way these animals were treated. Police forces are sensitive to Public Relations- they are public servants after all- and although we can't help those two horses we can make the police think twice before acting the same way in the future.

(also posted in the other thread on this topic)

Vet in question - James Christie - looks fairly junior. Anyone else think that he may have been bullied into leaving by policemen who thought they'd get some good target practice out of the situation?

Absolutely horrific. I've contacted the tabloids about this. Might ask my mum who's a journalist for a national paper but usually does profiles and interviews, if she could pull some strings...
