Nice one. About time too.

Although I have to say....where I live....*touches wood*...without exception, and including baseball-hat wearing young lads....everyone slows down/stops. I have actually been amazed over the past few months how good drivers have been.....my neck and Rt arm has been aching from nodding and waving:D

That is good, although it needs to be countrywide, and as for drunk/drug drivers affecting horses, they affect everybody! It is the general standard of driving amongst some sober drivers that needs addressing too!

It's very nice to see a proactive approach, but never mind just West Yorkshire, this needs to be rolled out to all forces.

Since we had a horse fatality and awareness walk in our area (almost exactly 12 months ago), attitudes towards horses and riders have been a lot better locally, but I am still amazed at the number of drivers who look so surprised to see a horse while in the countryside.

Yesterday, we were on a fun ride; a guy raced up behind us and practically bumped the hocks of my OH's pony, and this while we were trotting to try and get to a bit of road where he could pass. When we stopped he almost stalled his car, as from the look on his face, I think he believed I was going to have a go at him (he was right too). I would think the driver was in his sixties, so he should have known better. Also the warning signs put out by the organisers of the ride should have given him a bit of a clue that he might encounter a horse or two (or six in this case).

About time that something was done about it :)
I don't ride on roads unless I'm with someone who wants to (which is very rare) and if I do go on the road I'm a quivering wreck.
Fingers crossed more people will start to slow down and drive sensibly round horses
