Hello All!

I am in need of your wisdom once more!

Tomorrow I am off to Suffolk to view yet another loan horse that sounds perfect. He is a 17.1hh 7yr old branded Polish Warmblood and he is a Bay Roan Leopard Spot!

However I do not really know much about the breed and was wondering if anyone on here owned one? What can anyone tell me about the breed's general build and temperament? Is there anything I should bear in mind bar the obvious when I go and see him?

I have spoken to his owner many times and he sounds perfect. He is laid back, affectionate and a push button ride, she hunts and schools him in a rubber snaffle which sounds good for my confidence issues! She said she will probably never sell him as he is such a lovely boy but she has a yard of 13 other hunters to look after and she hardly gets to ride him and he's just going to waste, its just not fair on him.

He does sound perfect for me, but I have had a really crappy year. I lost my beloved Ned in a hunting accident back in January and 5 months later my marriage broke down (currently getting divorced!), 2 months ago I thought I'd found the right loan horse and his owner changed her mind 3 days before I was due to collect him. Now after a bad fall off an 18hh Clydesdale x (who has a hell of a buck I might add!) I have 2 broken ribs and a slowly healing sprained wrist (the doc has cleared me to ride tomorrow, with plenty of pain killers)! So this time I'm trying not to get my hopes up! But wish me luck!

Thanks in advance!

We have a Polish warmblood at work at the moment. 17hh bay. He is so dosy that we call him the special one as he is a bit special. I don't mean that in a bad way he is just a bit thick.
He has great movement and a fab jump. And is fairly chunky.

We have had 2 other Polish warmbloods at work in the past, both were piebalds. One that could not work out how to jump, she was a bit special as well and a boy that was so laid back he was practically horizontal! Neither of them were very big or chunky.

ive had experience with a couple of polish warmbloods, niether of them my own, but both of them were horrible! (sorry!) that of course could have been more owner issues than horse issues. please tell me if im speakin out of turn, but if you have confidence issues is it really a good idea to get such a big horse? its probably going to put you off more if he starts messing around.

I have one! Hes 16.2 with lots of bone, proving to be a good allrounder. He behaves a bit like a TB but im guessing thats just him rather than the breed. Loads of Character and very handsom. Moves nice, jumps huge and never stops!!

To me size is not an issue, my first horse was a 17.1hh Dutch Warmblood, then I had a 16.3hh IDxTB and I regularly ride my friends 18hh Clydesdale x

I feel more confident on bigger horse's I don't know why its just me. Plus I am not the lightest of people so I have always felt that I needed to go for a sizeable chunkyish horse. Again I maybe be wrong but thats just the way I feel and I'm comfortable this way.

I have lost a bit of confidence hunting and this was after I lost my horse in a hunting accident. Schooling and hacking I am fine with, the nerves have just been jangling a bit when I am out on hound exercise (on my friends clydesdale x) but I haven't properly hunted since Nessy died. That's why this horse who is a kind and confident hunter sounded right for me.

i have a hanoverian cross polish warmblood.

he is very very laid back (horizontal), gentle, kind and perfect allrounder.

he jumps like a stag (when he wakes up), he looks lovely, but my 2 yr old can ride him.

dunno whether that's his hanoverian-ness, his polish warmblood-ness or just his personality...

xx

TBH, the polish WB stud book is such a mish mash now, they could be anything!! I know 2 who were a high % of Selle Francais and TB, so were sharp and very good looking, but not easy. One who had dutch in his bloodlines, and is the easiest, most laid back horse ever, and gorgeous to boot, and anoher who goes back to Ramiro Z, who is very smart, very sensible, but a bit thick!!! Very talented though, just won his first BE event!!

I've got one who I've owned for 12 years. Like many others have said, he's really laid back, takes everything in his stride and will turn his hoof to anything. He's a really nice, easy horse to have around. Good luck with the one you're going to view - hope it works out for you!

I have a branded polish warmblood chestnut marw who is 16 hands.
And she is just fab with great nature and fantastic sturdy build.

I have only had her for a month.

She has a funy branding tho as she is a Trakehner cross (so has half trakehner and polish brand) but has more polish warmblood in her.

She has a full breeding passport.

Mine is 3/8 TB when you look through his pedigree in his passport

The one I am looking at was brought over to Britain as a two year old. The owner went to Poland to get him, he has a Polish Passport but I will take a snap of his brand tomorrow and try to figure out his breeding from his passport (I may have to find someone who can read polish!).

Thanks for your help everyone! Very much appreciated!

If you let me know his breeding I will tell all I know about it.
TBH you can't really call Polish Warmblood a breed - it means a horse bred in Poland and can encompass anything from draught horses to a 7/8 TB. BUT, you can normally work out from the pedigree what OLD Polish breed he is and then I can give you the characteristics of the breed and probably some temperament info on his particular lines.
PM if I don't get back to you on the thread as I only nip in here late at night

Thats very interesting. We have a Polish Cob type. We have been trying to translate her passport and some words are obvious, others are eluding us - if I dig it out can I Pm you with the words I cant work out?

What I would realy like to know is what on earth breed she is -I think the breed bit is 'unknown'. My OH says she is a 'Polish sausage bred' and could have fed half of Europe!
