Hi, my mother in law has been riding out in one of the above jackets, and we really see a difference in traffic slowing down. Are these legal?

The ads say approved by the police force. I think it's sad riders haveto make motorists think they are police to make them slow down. It would be lovely to have a law that actively protects vulnerable road users.
I have considered buying but already have so much hi viz can't justify it yet.

I thought it was borderline personating a police officer.
Am certain the ad in a catalogue I read didn't say police consulted but police approved, it was an old catalogue though.

I swear by mine. I ride out in the vest, hat band and the sheet for my horse. Compared to riding without it definately makes cars slow down!! It is a shame thou that you have to go to such lengths for drivers to pass you safely in there cars!!

I've had police go past me when I've been wearing mine and, bearing in mind that I ride a big DWB, usually have a black Mountain Horse jacket on and dark blue breeches so could I suppose be mistaken at first glance as a police officer, they've never objected.

I have friends in various police forces. I'll maybe ask for an unofficial comment.

My friend was in the police until recently and her friends are in the met and they thought it was fine and a great idea. She has ridden my horse in it which she certainly wouldn't do if she thought there was the slightest chance of getting arrested for it.
I ride along a main road and we have police pass us all the time and if they aren't on blue lights they generally smile and wave rather than pull us up. Mind I am on a pony but I have been mistaken for a police officer by several members of the public :).

ETN magazine February 2012.

Blah blah blah' We (ASA) considered that using the words 'police consulted' implied that a formal consultation process had taken place, and that the policehad approved the product. As this was not the case we concluded that the ad was misleading.

The article does state that Equisafety has been in contact with the police regarding the legality of the product, and an email from A police officer gave the opinion that the product was acceptable.
