POLITE gear - can it backfire?

i have and wear one - and people round here slow down more for it - but saying that most know who i am anyway and slow and wave as i ALWAYS thank by hand up and saying it out loud - i think that's something that gets folk back up more
prob is i've had 2 folk ask for directions and one ask how to report a lost mobile phone

I have one, and I've not (yet) had any adverse reaction to it. Drivers round here are pretty good, there's the odd one who doesn't slow down, but most do.

TBH It never ocurred to me that drivers might deliberately not slow down becuase of the wording.

Not yet been asked how to report a lost phone!

I've been riding out wearing the tabard for last couple of years. It does seem to work although probably because people do initially think I'm a copper. I have been asked for directions from a taxi driver who thought I was a bobby. I do say thankyou to drivers who make an effort to slow down/pass wide and think this is what helps. Hi vis is there to get you seen but the wording on the POLITE range is there to look like the word POLICE lets face it. Haven't had any adverse reactions other than the odd idiot who drives past like a nob and would do whatever you were wearing.

I wear normal hi vis, and had someone stop and ask me last week if my horse was related to the one he'd seen riding 5 mins up the road, and then when on to ask if he could 'have a go' my face was pretty incredulous by this point! :D
