i used to be the "get her to sit on the new horse and see what it does" person, which usually meant a wild ride! i have a fairly sticky bum as a result but strangely ive never ever been on a horse that rears, so that's definately still a fear of mine!

Either if it's not too serious, neither if it's extreme! If the bucks are big, twisting mental bucks to get you off - no thanks! Rears - if they are vertical - again, no thankyou...but small rears in protest or bucks of excitement or slight disgruntlement I can cope with

Pretty much my view too though if I really had to chose I'd rather get on the bucker. Time was I had no qualms about getting on horses that were known to buck but my ID has well & truly hammered that over-confidence out of me - there's bucking & then there's really bucking

I prefer a horse that goes half way up rather than a big buck - I find it easier to stay on and my back is not jarred and I am left hobbling.

I am not bothered by a horse going half to three quarters up, but would not ride one that was know to flip over. All my TBs used to do small rears in excitement but were never dangerous - more like tigger bounces.

Fleur occasionally went vertical, her show name was Vertical Limit. When she did this I would hold tight and if she did not come down after a few secs, would slip feet out of stirrups and slide down her bum, and give her a huge smack with the whip. Then jumped back on. She never did reared vertical again after this in the same session.

Never considered her dangerous as she gave a few small rears first, never flipped over and you could avoid them most of the time. She reared as part of napping and if put under too much pressure.

rearer if it's a gelding or stallion - bucker if it's a mare
mares are more likely to go over rearing than geldings

depends on the horse really and why the problem exists

cannot stand horses that buck to bury you

most buckers want to lose the rider and most rearers it's based in a fear thing somewhere
