First time poster so sorry if this is in wrong category/or I’ve messed something up!

I think my pony is suffering from a bit of a pollen allergy (she did a few years ago confirmed by vet but has been fine the last few years) she’s completely fine in regards to eating normal/not grumpy or down/riding completely normal/is basically herself other than a bit of a cough and runny nose. She is completely fine on the days the pollen count is low, this only occurs on the days the pollen count is medium/high which is telling me it is a pollen allergy and not a cold/flu.

I will call the vets first thing Monday morning to double check, as didn’t think it was serious enough to call on weekends as she is completely fine other than this.

But any advice/tips/experiences anyone had with pollen allergies and ways to help her out would be fantastic! She wears her uv flymask constantly and that really helps her and stops her eyes getting puffy, I have started adding a powder supplement to her feed (pollen eze) and am going to try riding her in a nose net to see if that helps, but any suggestions/tips/experiences would be great.

Nose net while riding, i’ve always used the equilibrium ones but there’s others on the market now. Also the full face fly masks with the nose net for turnout. I’ve also used global herbs PollenX successfully too.

I have had good results with Piriton tablets, or the supermarket cetrizine equivalent. My cob only needs four when the pollen is high, or two on a medium day as a morning dose, and repeated at night. Tried other brands, but came back to Piriton. He is worse with buttercup pollen than anything, and has improved massively since we had a buttercup blitz.

Yeah she’s a Welsh D she’s not a fan of summer in general prefers the freezing cold, not sure if the pollen is high this year or not as she was fine last year

I have tried countless things and the only thing that works is ventipulmin through the worst months, I tend to start it end of April then play it by ear.

My horse gets breathless and will really puff just walking when it's really bad he only coughs a few times at the start of riding no other time really, it only seems to happen 8n spring and summer so we think it's pollen related.

Might be worth speaking to your vet about it.
