First off, I've found the most lovely home for her. Having not had a great deal of interest and the 2 people that did come to see her, not being able to manage her I was losing a bit of faith and had almost decided just to keep her for the HT season. But then a 14yr old and her mum came up to look at her and my goodness could the kid ride nicely! She just sat really still and quiet and wrapped her legs round Polly and kept her reins nice and soft... Polly loved it and went beautifully - she even got Polly in an outline which normally takes ages to figure out.
I realised that there are two types of rider who say they like 'sharp' horses; those that really like sharp horses and those that are just too lazy to kick
They hacked her out, jumped her, took her in a lesson and spent and entire Saturday afternoon just grooming her and playing with her on the yard and they are having her next Sunday. I took Polly to Pontispool on Friday for one last blast round the XC course, we had a fabulous time and I definitely made my peace with saying goodbye to her. My girl that rides her for me on a Thursday took her in one last SJ competition today and is helping me with her all next week so we can both share the last few days together.
I'm really sad but I know it is the right decision and this girl rode her better than anyone else I've ever seen on her - I can;'t believe I've been so lucky as to find such a nice rider for her. I'm taking her up to her new yard as I'm going that way anyway to go to Crufts next week. I know I'm going to cry my eyes out... any words of advice to make it easier?
Its a wierd situation, I feel both elated and devastated at the same time. Just wanted to share really.
