my neighbour has an ex polo pony on long term loan and isreally nice type, and was wondering where is best place to purchase polo ponies from and any other info on them.
It's hard to say really, the sound and sane ones will be massively expensive as they get used for patrons and teaching people or hirelings. You could try contacting some local professionals (google?) or polo clubs and telling them what you want. Some ex polo ponies may not adapt very well to jumping or dressage either so if you want to do that then I would be very specific as to what you're after. I once bought a youngster with all his polo training quite cheaply as he was just not good enough for polo so you may find something- good luck!
I am very good friends with JC an international polo trainer who is a neighbour of mine. He has recently offered me a horse which has grown to big but was with his son training at cowdrey (is that how you spell it lol!!). This horse as I said has grown to big for playing and is now about 16.1 hh 4 yrs old but incredibly well trained and responsive. my daughter tried it and jumped a good 2'9 on him (and we were told afterwards he had never jumped before). He came in on the wrong stride but was responsive enough that she was able to hold and get the stride right before he flew over as if he had been jumping for years. At mates rates they wanted £1800 for him but I am sure you would get him for about £2500. If he had stayed below 15.1 ish he would now be for sale with the training he has had for £30,000.
pm me if you want more details.
