I'm considering buying my first polo pony in the near future.
I'm being guided by my current club - but as they're the ones selling the ponies I'd like to have a look at others advertised to check I'm not being mislead regarding price etc (I think they're all above board, but never hurts to check).

I've evented and hunted since I was a child, so finding a good, sound, healthy pony that I'm happy with isn't a concern - but knowig the value of different levels of polo pony etc is.

Could anyone give me an idea of where I could see any classifieds etc? (The usual horse for sale websites don't seem to have any polo ponies advertised!)

Many thanks

Have a look in Polo times- the price can vary enormously depending on what level you want and how good a rider you are. Are you competing at PC?

Just playing club chukkas at the minute so more concerned with getting a schoolmaster type than anything ready for the Burghley of the polo world :p. Not happy to buy anything too old though.

Must be good enough to help me with my game a bit while I'm still learning. I'm an experienced rider - very used to tbs and would actually prefer something sharp (ploddy or too quiet would be a turn off) but at the same time wouldn't want a nutcase lol.
Sharp, excitable and/or sensitive is fine. As long as it's experienced enough to put up with me still learning the game.

Will defo take a look in polo times, thanks for the suggestion :)! Any frther ideas on where to look or/and prices?

Y'know I wouldn't be put off by the age if you're looking at Argentine schoolmasters, although I doubt that you would get one for under about 8k! They live forever and never break, and will remain sellable until they are nearly dead ;)

There are occasionally a few on horsemart but I think they're probably lower quality. Try some of the big polo yards, tell them what you're looking for and a budget and they'll tell you if they have anything suitable.

P.S If you want a REAL game, try polocrosse! ;)
