Ok I think the rain has fuzzled my brainss but anyway ..

After 'schooling' (I use that term loosely) Sol this evening in a cheap loose ring snaffle it suddenly dawned on me that I can't understand why I put a cheap bit in her mouth when I won't put a cheap saddle or bridle on her

So that lead to me look around for a new bit (LR is good but still not perfect!)

Soooo in your experience are the more expensive (sprenger/nueue schule bit actually worth the money ? Will her way of going and acceptance of the bit suddenly improve

Or is that me just hoping for a miracle

Oh and IF it will suddenly help her way of going how am I meant to deciede between the 70 variations of a snaffle

I love the sprenger bits - but not because they are expensive as it were.

Go slowly flower - didn't you ride for an hour this morning??

I hacked her for 45/50 mins this am and pottered for 20 minutes this afternoon only in walk and about three little trots .. she won't be grand national fit anytime soon

eta - She was ridden twice because she's stuck in because of the weather so it was that or lunge her to keep her occupied

Won't be doing any stressage anytime soon

I'd been considering changing her bit for along time (before everything and have tried a few things but never found anything that suited her - so now I have too much time on my hands I keep thinking (Yes very dangerous

Mine get by with cheapo bits, (But then TBH Pips saddle was cheaper than some bits too

Some improvements do come from getting a bit they like, but it is very rarely a miracle cure.

My horse loved the Myler snaffle I brought him and immediately accepted the bit and went beautifully in it after fighting for ages with his dutch gag....

I am permanently being covered in Horslyx at the moment as I forget its in her stable until a sticky brown stain appears on my arms (would make VERY good fake tan!!)

I may see if I can borrow a 'posh' snaffle of someone because the darn horse will probably hate it

IMO the horse should be allowed to "choose" his bit - if he accepts a cheapie bit better than a KK then why go for the more expensive one? My horse was no different in a KK than in her £10 loose ring lozenge snaffle so I stuck with the one she has. I've tried her in £80-worth of Myler and she HATED it! I've also tried her in various other cheap-and-cheerful types and although I haven't found her ideal bit yet, her favourite is still the lozenge one she came with.
It's a bit the same with my horse's saddle though - her Wintec fitted her perfectly (she could have been the template horse for it!) but I'm sure there are many other better designed saddles out there that won't fit half as well.

As long as the bit fits and is comfortable and safe (ie. not so cheap that it might break or something random!) then I don't see any problem with using a bog-standard one.

I got up early so the roads were quiet and just about missed the rain

But because of her shoes and the fact she gallops off when you let her go in the field I can't risk putting her out when the grounds sticky

She was happy enough to be in with a HUGE haynet and feed though

Ohhh I hadn't thought of that !! I keep buying snaffles when I see them but can't really justify £80 for her to hate it

Mine was in a Meile and she went really badly in it - I switched to the same style snaffle but it cost £11 and she goes much better in it

Its all just money making
Neue Schule and Sprenger bits which you pay £60+ for make no difference to if you pay £20 my friend fond that out the expensive way!!
