PONIES!!!! They're the best!!

Horses, I went onto my 16.2hh aged 11 and shes easier than any pony I've ever ridden. That said Oshk has more than his fair share of quirks but after speedy pony spawn of satan, I'm happy everyone in our house is off of them.

My Shetlands would either go under or eat their way through the jumps

I have to say ponies as I own three but have never owned a horse and if I did it wouldn't be much above 15HH - I'm crap at gates

Pony.
I'm 6 ft and being too big isnt an issue, a good native will carry you easily and are IMO much more fun.
Horses are more stright forward but I love the quirks ponies have

Didn't vote, but I have 2 horses and as OH is 6'4 and rides occasionaly, a pony wouldn't suit. There are 2 section D ponies that I ride regularly though and they are such fun, although one of them has a habit of dumping me on the floor.

did you know that the old jumping rule was that you had to pass between the flags, it said nothing of going over the jump. That was until at one of the bigger events (can't remember which) someones horse squeezed under a jump (can't remember who) and the officials couldn't do anything about it because there was nothing against it in the rule books!!! Needless to say after that fiasco they re-wrote the rules.

it was in an H & H article about crazy things horses did in history (the photo was a peach, just like a thelwell cartoon)

I'm only 5'5" and lightweight so can ride ponies easily, but I've never got on with them! I used to ride an 18.2hh who was fab, I MUCH prefer horses. I would never buy anything under 15.2hh (preferably above 15.3hh). It also helps when jumping though, as I was terrified of anything above 2'3" six months ago, and when I did my jumping assessment at college just over a year ago the jumps were 2'8" ish - the 18.2hh cleared them like they were 2'!

I love ponies so much, they are the best! even though i have outgrown ponies and ride horses I still love them, we own 2 which are ridden by a little girl and they have such great personalities!

Ponies. IME at the sight of a plastic bag flying out of a headge a horse will lose it's marbles completely, and need to be reassured.
A pony will see the opportunity to have some fun with you and see if you're on the ball
