Firstly, not sure if i'm posting this in the right one. But I'd like some advice.
I've recently brought my 6 year old niece a (as advertised) Grey 12.2hh, 10 year old, ex pony club gelding.
On viewing this pony I was very pleased with him, my niece was confident riding him, so I decided to buy him.
I did think he was bigger than 12.2hh but with my niece on him, she didn't look too small, so I wasn't bothered.
On arriving home, I measured him. He is in fact 13.1hh. The first time he was ridden home, he was much more forward than I remembered. I put it down to being ridden in a field instead of a menage, new home ect.
The second time he was ridden, he started bucking, spinning and napping. I put it down to the fact he had been on too much grass when he was used to being stable kept at night. So he's been in the stable for 2 weeks now. I have had his back checked as well, just to rule out any pain. Now today I've had my friend around, and her daughter (a very petite 16 year old) rode him, and he was terrible. Bucking, rearing, spinning and napping. BUT only in trot/canter. We decided to lunge/long rein him, in which we learnt he is a complete and utter novice. He didn't have a clue what to do. After a few big bucks and general misbehaving on the long line, he did settle and began to listen.
I decided to check his teeth after his workout. And he has wolf teeth. On researching this, I've found his teeth look more like a 5 year olds. On checking his passport. It seems to be a replacement. I've tried contacting old owners, to no avail. Has anyone else had a situation like this? And do we think hes 10 or 5? He also have a very high neck, which we thought suggested he was gelded late. But if he is only 5, it would explain this...
