Just a quick Q..

My mares passport says she's 15.2hh but after putting a stick to her yesterday (I know a bit vague plus she had shoes on) she was on the dot 15hh. I've always doubted the passport height but its never been an issue..

But I want to have a go at the PUK dont want to get thrown out the 153cm class if they thing she's too big! She definitely doesn't look 15.2hh but she would still probably be full up 15hh.

I dont really plan to do PUK seriously (yet!) but dont want to be thrown out of classes! So is a life height certificate necessary, and if so how much do they cost? Is there much chance of them questioning her height?

Please dont think Im pot hunting or anything trying to get into the smaller classes! She did measure up 15hh at home but like I said, the passport says 15.2hh

Any help appreciated!

To get a life certificate you need to have her measured 2 years in a row up to the age of 7, the life height is then taken at 7. To be honest it really depends what classes you do I have never been asked to provide my life height cert at Ponies UK but I know it is becoming more common to ask. I believe the Joint Measuring Board have a website which should be able to answer your questions. As to should you get one or not, personally I would as it saves a lot of hassle.

Ok thank you! but...my horse is 9 lol Would she just get one straight life height measurement then?

*goes to look the measuring board website*

Hmm no idea but I'm sure the JMB site will tell you.
Bear in mind also that you can still be remeasured even with a life height esp at HOYS etc. Several top show horses have measured out after winning.

Ok thank you, I have no intention of trying to cut her down or any of these tricks to make her smaller...at the end of the day if she's too big I'll just have to find some courage and jump the bigger classes lol

Don't quite think we'll be making it to HOYs either lol *dreams*

Think I understand now, she'll need an annual certificate before a full life height but that suits me fine as Im not sure how well she's going to take all this showing lark!

you have to get two consecutive measurements in two years to get a life cert!

my pony was measured in at 14hh on the dot when he was 5, and then in the space of a year he grew to 15hh! have my bsps cert 2 prove hes 14hh lol

I would not worry what height your passport says its by no means a binding in any way is just a rough guess.

You need a year Height then you get the life the year after unless your horse is young then you get year ones till there 6 then can have a life.

Go and give it a go and I'm sure you will not be the tallest in the class by a long way.
