I havent been online in a while but ponio and i went to her first ever show ever the other day. She is green and I have been traning her to load, to jump (she hasnt ever jumped before) transitions basically eveything from scratch has been done with her as she has never been schooled.

So its taken us a while to load but eventually she went all the way on, the partion was shut and she was as quiet as a mouse all the way to the venue, perfect!
Admititly we need to practice unloading as this was a little rushed but thats by the by.

I left her on the box when I went to put my entry in she was good as gold, I got her out the lorry (as above lol) tacked her up and warmed up (still relaxed, collected and well behaved) and headed for the arena, she has NEVER been in side before and she strolled in, NEVER seen a group of show jumps before (not phased) and jumped every fence didnt knock a single one down. we had to refusals but they were my fault I didnt have enough leg (I watched the video back) and she was a DIAMOND! we jumped 2'3 and 2'6 and i couldnt have asked for anything more from her.

I am so PROUD and so I wanted to share with you all!

If you are going to write on here, why not tell the truth?

The Facts

You went to this show against the advice of experienced people. Your horse was totally foot sore, as your farrier had been unable to get shoes on it a few days before, as it reacted badly to having its feet held.

You were not able to load the horse yourself, and your yard manager managed to get it on for you.

Both the rounds you jumped were awful. Neither you or the horse knew what you were doing, and you even jumped the practice fence the wrong way.

When finished you were totally unable to reload your horse yourself. After about 2 hours of watching you try - and with you getting angrier by the second, some other people from your yard who had been at the same show, took the horse from you and managed to get it in.

And this makes you proud?

Not really sure how to reply to this one.

OP - Glad you thought it went well and hopefully next time things will run a bit smoother and your horse will get used to loading etc, practice and patience always pays off in the end.

Stacey Lou, congrats on your achievement, you must be feeling great after taking the pony to its first show. It sounds like it gave you a really good idea of what you need to work at riding wise i.e keeping your leg on etc and also that you need to do a bit more practice re the loading and unloading which is what these things are all about! It sounds like you had a fabulous day, well done. I bet you cant wait to do your next one :-)

And Jump4Joy, who on earth are you to try and put a downer on StaceyLou's good day out. Get over your self or at least say what connection you have to her or the pony in order to justify pathetic comments like that.

Well done Stacey Lou, I had a similar experience last week with my own boy, it's a great feeling isn't it? Don't worry about the loading, my boy use to be awful but we're slowly getting there, slowly slowly catch a monkey :D

Jump4joy - let her have her moment, when you've got a young learning horse, even the small things are an achievement.
