Went to evening unaffiliated SJ today as a bit of a test for Fleur as not done a SJ competition since about Feb and before that was last July when she threw dollies out of pram. She has been jumping very nicely at home but that doesn't mean at comps will go to plan and as doing a ODE in 2 weeks thought it would be best to see her current SJ mood as didn't want to get there and not even get as far as the XC!

So anyway started with the 2ft6 height never going to be an issue but some scary people and fillers in addition to some perfect napping oppourtunities. Well rode very quietly and went beautifully clear straight through to jump off (2 phase) and nice clear again though very very slow although was 7th!

Stuck her in the 2ft9 as was there as well but this time I asked a bit more of her, bigger canter and better shape. Jumped first section beautifully and really pinging off the surface, first jump in timed section was on appalling line in corner (you couldn't jump it straight anyway), I put her in deep and on horrid angle and then was awful rider and looked down and she just rolled the pole. I went on and tested her for the rest of the jump off though, pushed her on between fences and asked for some tight turns and she answered every question including jumping the wall off about 2 strides and at an angle.

Really pleased with her as started afternoon with her rearing in field when going to catch her then her bashing me in face in stable. (lucky to have no apparent black eye so far!) But travelled well behaved beautifully at the competition even when one horse decided to have a bronco in the warm up (and omg that all weather warm up is fabulous!! feels like your floating!) and jumped really well and really didn't deserve the pole in the second class.

Oh and apparerntly we qualified for the GB champs thing at W&W!!!

Role on the 24th and our first attempt at a ODE!!!

Glad she went well!! She is a lovely horse who needs time! When i saw her last year she looked like she was going a bit quick! She went from British Novice to Newcomers/1.15m in a short time! Prob jumping small course did her confidence wonders. These dutch horses can take a long time to grow up!! Good luck at your ODE!

who are you Shez??! im intrigued

Never jumped any 1m15s on her though! Went to sligthly larger courses in hope she would gain a bit more respect and to prepare for BN 2nd rounds. But soon dropped that idea (after 3 newcomers) and came back down to basics.

And yes agree she was jumping a bit quick but was stuck between riding her forward to stop the napping and bringing her back to a better canter but not getting anywhere near the fences *remembers Bicton last year*.

Last night was spot on though as her mum will say! infact was told i went too slow in the first class!!!

It wasn't a dig just a comment on what I saw! I watched her in a few Newcomers/Young horses classes at Bicton thats all! I know whats its like I have had a few horse that have waved to the crowd!

Wish you all the best with her.

don't worry didn't take as a dig just wondered!

Thankfully the crowd waving has now ceased but god did it take a while to get out of her.

Plan is to bring her back out next year either BE or BSJA (pocket can't currently afford both!) all depends on how much she likes the ODE lark, HTs so far have been promising but she needs more miles on the clock!

I think she will turn out good! Hopefully she will grow out of it for good now! I always thought she was talented and wish I'd bought her myself but had too many. I only had her for a week.

The owners sent her for me to ride at Bicton, she turned up the day before you tried her, I had never sat on her and she had never been to a show! I then got told you were coming at 8.30 the following morning to try her (no pressure!!). So considering all of that she jumped clear around the clear round first time and I couldn't of asked anymore from her.

I know who you are now!

hello my dear!

She is a talented mare but has had such issues. she went up and over with S the week she arrived due to not wanting to take a contact, I saw it happen and she barely touched her mouth but she flipped. Also had a very bad point as a 4yo before I took her on where it was vertical or nothing when tried to long rein her on one occasion she went up 7 times in 5 mins but there were no pain issues that could be found, YO nearly branded her unrideable at one point and she is good with 'problem horses'.

But the rearing has stopped through patience, although every so often I can feel her think about it, and have a far happier horse who will hack on her own (wouldn't hack at all really until this year) but she is still as much as a tart as ever!

We still believe to this day that she blew her brain on the devon grass actually just grass full stop as she had been in the country what a matter or weeks? and it became pretty apparent she didn't really know how to graze!

At Bicton that first time she was unbelivable, pottered round like a lamb having never been to a show before. Hey if S hadn't have bought her I would have on that day alone. Stolen her now anyway
