just wondering if anyone else has read any. Read half of jill wants a job or something similar, very, very corny!!!

Ie Jill + friend get a job straight away after leaving school at 16, dont need an interview! They have run, and taught at a riding school??? and they give ponies such lovely names like merry dawn, and happy night???

I read them all when I was a child, absolutely loved them!

That one was where they had to break in a load of NF ponies wasn't it? Jill had a pony called Black Boy? and later had an "ugly" jumping pony she really didn't like at first?

Oh I loved those books so much, used to read them all day long

Jill's next "ugly" pony was called Rapide!

OP you need to remember that the books were written a VERY long time ago and life was very different. Still no excuse for the names though!

i do realise they were written a while ago (i'm 25)... just quite funny reading them... every little girls dream!!!

With no disrespect, how old are you?

Those books were written at a time when that sort of thing happened and people with horses were like that (that's not meant in a bad way just that the majority of people who had horses did tend to be better off) Just speaking for myself, from 15, I got any job I interviewed for not because I was so fantastic (such modesty!

) but more than likely I was the only one who applied!

I can honestly say, that until I got married, any job I applied for whether with horses or in an office, I got, so it did happen like that!

Those books were great and were obligatory for pony mad girls; the new ones were always on my Christmas list!

I used to read them years and years ago, great fun..........and always on my christmas list for the new ones........... Think I still have some of them at home hidden away......

Read my post above!!! I was merely commenting about how funny they seem today!

I had the books that my mother had as a child and used to read them constantly.

My parents and brother used to tease me by making up new names for the books like "Jill had 2 ponies... who escaped onto the motorway and got squashed". I was obviously mentally abused as a child!!

I loved those books when I was growing up - in fact I've still got some of them (always on the look out for any others....) I was reading Jill has Two Ponies the other day

I loved the Jinny books and The Saddle Club ones!

I really want to read one now!! I can remember walking to the local library once a week to see if they had any new ones in and then read them over the weekend!!

I always wnated to be Stevie's friend in The Saddle Club!!

I used to be obsessed with a book called 'Pony Club Cup'

which was very similar.. read all the jil books, the jinny books... plus any pullen thompson ones - i remember one called 'we hunted hounds'... or something like that

I am too old for saddle club books... but I won't say I haven't read some of them

Thanks for that link it was brilliant! Seeing all the old covers really made me so nostalgic!

I have to confess that my mum still has a trunk full of all our old books from when we were kids which she refuses to get rid of.

I went home to stay wsith my parents after coming out of hospital and re-read most of them. It was brilliant way to convalesce

My all-time favourite was Jill and the prefect pony!

I loved reading pony books when I was younger, 24 now. I used to read "Jill" books because we have the same name...

Loved the Jinny books too and wished so hard for a chestnut arab mare - word of warning - just be careful what you wish for!

I was properly obsessed with Saddle Club books too and wanted to be Stevie/her friend (ditto Happy Hack). I collected nearly all of them and then gave them away to a charity shop when I thought I should grow up. Totally regretted it so bought a mob of them on ebay (oh dear) just to sell them again because I felt stupid.

After this thread think I might re-buy some (and there is a new Pine Hollow series; it's more grown up! They are 16!! ha ha) and Jinny and Jill...
