which pony club have you joined? it might be worth talking to the DC of the pony club you have joined they should be able to help you with any queries you have :)

Pony club is usually some flatwork, some jumping or if not yet jumping, riding over poles on the ground practising jumping position and steering, maybe a mounted game or two and some Pony Care.

Funnily enough I've just come off their website :D you can find the branch you have joined on the website. Then down the left hand tabs there is general information and news for that branch and also all the different types of rallies etc there's also a section that lists them all for the year. if you are interested to know more about any of them then call the person in charge (the phone number is usually listed), I found them to be be really helpful and it didn't feel like anyone was trying to get me off the phone when I was waffling about where daughter was and what she wanted/needed :D I hope you get all the info you need and enjoy :)

Interesting as I contacted local pony club DC three weeks ago and had no reply - I too wanted information about what to expect if daughter joins (I never was a member). I read website - not informative enough and can only join at one point in the year - January. Finally a friend has suggested I join them at a rally in September to see how things are organised - so Im watching replies here with interest - let me know how you get on OP.

That's not right about only joining at one time of the year there are different rates depending on when you join. If you join after 1st sept the rate is the annual fee and you are a member til Dec 15.

This
I paid a half year rate in July, did you find the pages specifically for your branch? Ours is very up to date. If you can't get hold if the DC then try one of the other numbers (someone in charge of a rally or something) I was given a membership person's number and only met the DC at the 1st rally which was a general 1/2 day rally with some stable management and then an hours riding. This was good to meet those involved and get loads of info.
I suppose the info on the web site for each branch depends on how good the person updating it is

As with other responses you can join at any time of the year, the January date is just for full year membership cost. I would find out who the committee members are as they all deal with different aspects of the club. This information should be on the website for the branch. Most PC's are friendly and willing to answer any question, no matter how silly you think it is. The main thing is to make sure you arrive a little bit early for the first rally and get chatting to other mums, that way you will find out the way that things run. I'm sure that once you get into the swing of things you will be fine. I am sure your daughter will enjoy herself immensely.

I'm being sent the forms for my daughter to join with her pony,I'm a bit nervous of it all myself as daughter is a nervous rider and pony is only 4 although I think it will be a good thing for them both :-) good luck op hope you get on ok x

Hi, MLC, they will be happy to let you and your daughter watch a rally but I don't think she would be allowed to join in as their insurance wouldn't cover her. Not sure if that's what you meant.

Only to watch --not to join in --I like to be "au fait" with what is expected so if daughter joins she ll have the right back up...and I want daughter to be comfortable with whats expected.

I was specifically told that as I d missed the January deadline I couldn't enrol daughter --even the people I know whose children attend believe this to be the case. That's sad as we could have joined in the summer fun..I will pursue..thanks FfionWinnie and LovesCobs

Hi, my daughter joined pony club at the beginning of the year. Very roughly- there are mounted and unmounted rallies organised. You can choose to do as little or as much as you wish... And can opt to do the rallies that suit ability or taste- ie flat or jump. Most people do a cross section of all.

Badges are earn at unmounted rallies.

In our pony club a message/ email will go out to say there's a mounted rally at x location on x date.. With a contact person nominated. You then contact that person to say yes please... Then once they've had all responses and usually a day or so before the rally we get contacted with a time.. Ours are usually grouped by ability.. No if your daughter nervous or novice she won't be chucked in with those cantering round 4 ft show jump courses!!

So you could be in one group for a flat work session and a different group the following week for a xc rally.

Joining our PC was the best thing we ever did for my daughter.. She's had chance to try lots of different things, made some great friends and we did our first PC camp this summer :)

Ive looked on the pony club pge & there page & cannot find any info, You can join anytime of the year different rates however mines only costing £25, ive just seemed to of missed all the fun days typical!, i went to the riding school direct, not sure if i would call her a novice she rides around the yard off lead rein (Lead rein anywhere else) she can walk trot on her own just hands in wrong place & the whole leg moves for a kick bless her (She wont listern to nything i say) ive told pony club this they said she wll pick it up easy watching & riding with all other girls which will be great for her shes already wanting to jump & gallop across fields, can you only do pony club at school registard or can you go to any pony club shows if they have any going on?, Do i have to show the riding school poniy passport? Thanks

Maybe it's not a proper affiliated pony club then. There are five with in easy reach of us and I am sure there will be more than one in your area too.
