So I'm taking my B test Care next week and I am starting to freak out like with every other exam situation I encounter :o Any subjects they will really ask about? Anything I should expect?
I am currently making A3 sheets of notes, have finished one on Food and Feeding rations and nearly finished one on hay. I hope to do many more as writing seems to be a good way of me remembering things :) I'm practising bandaging everytime I ride, and I'm trying to analyse the conformation of my horse and others at the yard :o

Very much depends on the examiner. Some will go into much more detail than others, IMO it's one of the flaws of the pony club tests, can be v pot luck about what you are asked!

I've coached quite a few people through the test and haven't had a fail yet. My advice is to do LOTS of revision, I find it easier to write little notes on each subject on a small a6 cue card as you can be concise and glance at one whenever you need a little revision.

Be confident, answer only what they ask you and don't dig yourself into a hole! If you are unsure, especially about veterinary/feeding, it is still acceptable at B test to say that you would check with the person in charge eg 'I would do xyz, but to make sure in this situation, I would check with the person in charge before acting.'

They do like to ask a lot about feeding and fitness so make sure you're confident on these.

Above all, be POSITIVE! :D

And let us know how you get on!

Good luck :D

when i did mine which is a few years ago now they also asked me a lot on fitness and feeding, gave us pictures of horses and we had to comment on what breed we thought the horse was, whether it was fit, overweight, the level of work you would thikn the horse was in what you would feed it for that level of work and how you would get it fitter. we had about 20 feeds to identify including rolled, micronised and whole oats and barley, bandaging, put boots on and remove and rugs and tack. I think it got about 98%

Thank you scribble and patterdale, I will try the a6 notes and good to know I can say that if I am unsure. I think I am ok with feeding and also fitness (especially since I'm going through the stages with my own horse who has been off for a month!). I need to scrub up a bit more on conformation and being confident in what I say, instead of being "I think he has a big head...?" ;)
