Getting ready for the first pony club camp - v exciting! Got most things on the very long list (!!) but need to get a camp bed. Any experience of these things?? Comfort and price would be the main considerations. Thanks in advance.

I bought my daughter a folding campbed from argos. It kind of folded up a bit like an umbrella.

The year before we laid plastic on the floor and then put a matress from a futon on top, that was more comfortable than the campbed. Quite a few kids brought ordinary single bed mattresses which they laid on plastic on the floor.

The first year we tried a blow up mattress it kept deflating and was a nightmare. I ended up driving to the camp and taking the futon mattress.

Our PC camp inside cattle sheds at Lincs showground so they are on concrete.

Thanks for that, yes I had thought a blow up bed would be a waste of time. Maybe a cheap single mattress would bethe answer. Mind you, the kit list is huge - think I'm going to have to do 2 trips!!!!

I went through 2 folding camp beds and a blow up mattress during my camp years! First camp bed was a cheap one, had a canvas base part that you put your sleeping bag on and I remember it being really unstable and hating it. Then I took an air mattress which was fine, I don't remember having any problems with it. Then I got a better folding bed that had a metal spring base and a mini mattress on and it was great, really sturdy and comfy. However I think it cost about £40 from argos, but imo worth it if you predict your daughter/son will be going to camp for years to come.

Im a TA soldier and have the bed Boxers mentioned from argos. It comes in its own neat bag, its high enough to not get a chill from the floor and having lived on it (literally my kit was under it and that plus the bed was my only personal space) for up to a month at a time its ace! Get a good sleeping bag, blow up pillow (possibly a camping mat for under the sleeping bag if you particularly

I have one like this:

Can't remember where I got it but it was cheaper, perhaps Argos? It is dragged out for anybody on a sleepover, and did camp once. Very comfy for something intended for short term / occasional use. My daughter has been sleeping on it for a couple of weeks in the playroom to keep her new kitten company and she says she's had good nights' sleep. It reminds me a bit of our old boarding school bunks; slightly dipped in the middle after a while but the springs are good.
