my daughter is 15 and going to her first pony club camp in 3 weeks with new horse of 3 months. being an anxious mum do most horses settle into new routine.they will be stabled 24hrs but ridden twice a day and checked regularly.our horses are kept on soaked hay ,shavings and rubber mats in at night out in the day.at camp they provide hay and straw.my daughter is soooo excited but i am worrying about all sorts. please can you reassure me and tell me to get a grip

She'll be fine and so will ponio - they will have a blast!! The pony's will be looked after - stuff like soaked hay etc is really not a problem. You never know she may come back having learnt soemthing about loking after horses and do some more jobs around the yard - still waiting for it to have that effect on my neices......

GET A GRIP!!!!!

Honestly, they'll be fine! Horse will cope (it's a horse) and daughter will too (and learn heaps because she'll be having so much fun).

GET A GRIP!!!!

Don't worry, it'll be fine! The pony I took to camp last year was used to living 24/7 outdoors, only went in a stable occasionally. The first day he was a little confused, as he'd never done a camp before, but by supper time that evening he'd calmed right down! There will be lots of experienced adults on hand to offer help etc to those who want it, and if you've ever read some of the Pony Club manual you'll see that it's all very "correct" so I'm sure little things like soaked hay won't be a problem! Also meant to add don't worry about her taking a new horse, my friend took a pony to camp that she'd bought only two weeks previously and they got on great!

I know she'll have HEAPS of fun, so don't worry!

On his first camp 2 years ago my son's pony (which we had only had a few weeks) came out of it's stable for the Vet inspection on the Monday morning lame! He ended up doing the camp on a borrowed pony that, not only had he never ridden before, but was far more wizzy than his. He survived & it did his confidence a power of good - have to hold him back now!

She will be fine, its when they get back the problems start, just let her sleep for 2 or 3 days and she will be fine! Just remember as soon as she leaves you can get rid of all of her stuff that you hate, she'll never notice!!

We are off today to look at a pony for possible loan, for my daughter to take to camp in less than two weeks.
Circumstances have left us up a gumtree, and this is pretty much our last hope, or she has to go on my cob, which, while he is a love, is far more worrying as he's not at all suited to that sort of thing.
I am literally feeling ill with the worry, but fear not - they are all very, very superivised, and the horses love the company and the brain food they get from all the activity, and as others have said, she's absolutely in the best place to stretch herself a bit, with lots of qualified adult help on hand.
Stock up on Rescue Remedy and chocolate and get a grip! (and I'll try to, as well!)

Hope the pony is suitable, my daughter took one on loan to her first camp 5 years ago, she rode it once before camp and had hell of a time, won her group and she was 9! We ended up buying it too.

Our pony needs soaked hay & that was quite the norm for many others at PC camp too. She also gets COPD in winter if in at nights, but she coped fine with the one week.
A word of caution: we lost my neice's pony last year at camp due to colic which he had never previously had. Although my sister had had him in for the preceding week, the change in diet may affect them, so I will be bringing our mare in at nights for a week before & feeding hay on restricted grass. As always advised, make changes to diet gradually.
What happened to our pony last year was very unusual & I don't know of any others this has happened to, so don't worry, but this year their branch are sending out information re preparing ponies for the diet at camp.

my daughter used to go to pc camp and absolutely loved it. It will do your daughter and her horse a world of good. My daughter improved no end and so did her first pony that she took. There will be lots of adults there to help her. If your worried about feed etc take your own. Thats what we did.
We were also allowed to visit at night but when we did we just got told that everything was fine and then she wandered off with her friends. Only problem was the state they kept the lorry living in.

Chill out it will be a great experience for her and a week of quiet for you
