I'm doing a pony club ode next week (I'm not a member) and not sure about the dress rules.. I've had a look in the rule book online but it's not clear.

I normally ride the dressage phase in a navy jacket and showjumping in a red jacket (when allowed), does anyone know if I can wear my red jacket for the showjumping phase in pc eventing?

If not I'll have to just wear my navy one but the red one's so much nicer, I just don't want to wear it and then have them turn around and say 'oh you're not allowed to wear red jackets, you're eliminated'

Thanks!

No. Just wear the navy one, PC rules require riders to be in understated tones. My friend turned upt to the dressage phase with a a blingy browband at a local PC ODE last year (she forgot it was o the bridle) and was not allow to compete until she had changed it for a plain one.

Out of interest (and this isn't a criticism) why do you showjump in/feel the need to wear a red jacket??

I got one when I was into junior showjumping because I just loved the way it looks and its all the rage in bsja (or it was at the time) to wear bright colours. Now my cross country colours are red and my boy wears red boots and a red pad to jump so it all just goes :)

Speaking of which do I need a particular colour saddle pad?

Plain and conservative saddle pad for all phases!
White for dressage, white/black/navy/another dark colour for SJ and XC. There were problems at a PC ODE by me last year because they didn't let a child start the XC phase as her mount was wearing a purple saddlecloth. Apparently rules have changed but you're better off playing it safe.

Pony Club like everything to be understated. Tweed or plain jackets. Black or brown tack. Plain numnahs etc.
However, if you're not a member I don't see how they can enforce their rules? (genuine question, I don't know if you can force it!)

If the event is being run under Pony Club rules then for insurance purposes they can enforce those rules on everyone....
As mentioned above PC prefer everything to be plain and understated if possible; although small amounts of "bling" are no longer forbidden they aren't popular and some clubs will still ask you not to wear it, ultimately it is the organisers decision and why add stress to your day by having a disgreement before you compete...

Under the 2015 rules:
The wording for jackets is traditional so actually the colour is irrelevant as long as the cut is traditional but be prepared that it may not be popular - most clubs will take traditional to mean tweed / black / blue!!

Numnahs and saddlecloths must only be white, cream, navy blue, brown or black. No other colours are allowed and no logos are allowed other than a small branch logo on a white saddlecloth.
Girths must only be white, brown, dark blue or black.

You will also need a hairnet for long hair and a medical armband is still compulsory for PC Cross country (even though it isn't now for BE). A lot of branches will also ask you to wear a medical armband for the SJ.

As of today - you may wear an airjacket without a back protector underneath for DR & SJ but you must still wear a back protector underneath for XC.

If you are in doubt about anything the best thing to do is email the organiser. Most of all though have fun and good luck!!
