Just to update you all - following my thread a few days ago in which there were varying views about whether a hackamore is 'legal' tack for the jumping phases of PC eventing.

I contacted HQ direct to get an answer and here is what they said;

"As with all other bits and bridles, anything that is not specifically mentioned in the rulebook is allowed, as per British Eventing rules."

I have been through the rulebook cover to cover - and there is no mention at all of hackamores. Therefore they ARE allowed.

Good news :D

BE rules actually say that if it is not mentioned it is NOT permitted ! (They also don't permit hackamores).
Make sure you do print the email off, as I think you might find you need it.

BE most definitely do allow hackamores for the jumping phases;

"Permitted: Any normal jumping bit; reins may be attached to leather ‘D’ rings;
pelhams and American or continental gags; gags and any form of bitless bridles;"

Otherwise all those who showjump in a bitless bridle are in serious trouble! :eek:

but that is for indirect attachment of reins to bits, hackamores, bitless bridles.

A, states that any form of bitless is bridle is permitted :confused: presumably if the reins are attached directly.

No, not permitted on ponies BS

Really? Still?! Wow. I know that was the rule when I was about 14 (which was nearly 15 years ago now) but I somehow thought they'd have changed it by now.

Does anyone know their logic on this one? Some of the kids that ride ponies are much better riders than the adults, why differentiate by age :confused:

Yes I was surprised too. Don't worry I'd already thought of printing it off to take with me!! ;)

I go everywhere with reams of paper because you'll always get the tack checker from hell who insists something isn't allowed when you know it is. I have to take copies of all the PCUK stuff and the IPC stuff because it's different :confused:

I think we could all do with a letter from the Pony Club saying if it isn't mentioned then it's allowed :D
