Can anyone tell me what Pony Club Open Dressage is equivalent to in BD? Is it Elementary or Novice? Looks to me like it is harder than a Novice but never done an Elementary, so not sure if its same level? Thanks!

its really quite an easy novice with a simple change!

Im guessing you havent seen the open test for areas this year then!? Its absoloutly horrible! Much worse/harder than any novice ive ever done... Ive not done an elem either, but id def say its harder than a novice.. im doing open too and really not looking forward to it!

Will agree with this. The test is really not very nice and you can hardly get into a decent rhythm at a particular pace. Would say it is definately harder than a Novice but like the others never done an Elem. so wouldn't know, have looked at a couple of tests and would say they are much nicer and more flowing.

Best of luck to anyone competing at the Areas. :)

Our PC team trainer actually helped to write it. Am not saying names, but its down to her. I have seen it, watched Mini TX and assorted team members practise it. Its not nice at all and its definitely an easy Elementary. There is lots of canter work in it and it defnitely favours the 'proper dressage' combinations, not the 'eventers who do dressage' brigade which she definitely falls into.

Oh well, good luck to everyone doing it, and good luck to everyone doing Area 14 at West Littleton on Sunday. I am so glad my dressage days are well and truly over, its a beast.

I wouldnt really say its elementary level, unless its a v basic one. I did elem 44 yesterday, its all in collected trot which haha i didnt realise until i read through it 10mins before! im doing open PC dressage on my eventer, we do JRNs so i had a practice run yesterday, doing novice 28 and elem 44. won nov 28 with 75% yay :D anyway.. i think the test is hard novice/very easy elem.

luckily for me serpentines are our fave!!

It's actually a good thing if it does ask a few questions. It is the Open after all. There are 2 easier levels at area before this one.

Surely with Open being top end it should be as an absolute minimum Elementary level or am I missing the point? Open Eventing is equivalent to BE Novice so essentially third level up.

What's in the test, have heard a lot about how horrid it is but not what the actual movements are...

From reading the test there is a lot of canter work, which is fine for our mare as she is good at it, but there is a simple change off of a 10 metre circle across X, which Mini TX has has been frantically practising. There are a few 15 metre circles in canter, the usual mediums, which we dont mind as our mare does the whole flicky toed bit and shows off and a bit with trot on a loose rein with the horse stretching down but still keeping a contact. Yuck! We've got some dressage experts on our team, so fingers crossed.

A down c/l
C turn left
E half 10m circle to X, X half 10m circle to B
A 3 loop serpentine with 10m circle at B
MXK change the rein, showing med trot strides
Over A trans to walk for 2-5 steps, then trot
Immediatly at A, a 3 loop serpentine with 10m circle at E
C walk
H turn left to M
M turn right and proceed in FWLR
B half 20m circle.
between E * H med walk
Between H & C direct trans to canter
C 15m circle
MF 1 loop 4-5 metres from track
FAKE canter
E half 10m circle, over X simple change through walk, X half 10m circle to B
C 15m circle
HK 1 loop 4-5 metres from track
KAFB canter
B half 10m circle, over X simple change through walk, X half 10m circle to E
MXK change rein. Trot at X
FXH change rein, med trot strides
C 20m circle, and allow horse to stretch
before C retake reins
B half 10m circle, proceed down c/l
G halt, salute.

Good oppourtunity to check i know the test!!

Thanks for posting that! I'm going to go against the grain here and say apart from the simple change it looks nice and straightforward albeit "busy". Having done far more Novice tests recently than I've ever wanted to it's definitely more a Novice test than Elementary - no collection or direction transitions into and out of medium at markers.

See, I like the test because I think it flows and IS busy - but I really do hate the simple change across the middle.

I think it is an ok test, but agree with others, really does favour the pure dressage people.

Still, I like it because it has so many movements, just wish that the horrible simple change across the middle wasnt there.

It is harder than a Novice BD test and is a low level Elim.

To those in doubt, our PC team dressage trainer wrote it (blame her), we asked her on Wednesday at team training where it fell in BD and she said its BD equivalent was a low numbered and low level elementary. She is there tomorrow if anyone wishes to ask her.

I would agree with this, I've done the test at Dengie Areas in the past, and found it more like an elementary, and was supposed to be doing it this weekend. Good luck to L this weekend, and well done to her for last - I'll be at dressage, but not riding unfortunately!
