Just got our pony club newsletter come through today.
Looked through it, found the section which said, "dengie dressage" and "dengie showjumping". Read through the list of names where people have been congratulated for qualifying for the second rounds. I have qualified for BOTH showjumping AND dressage (the only member of my pony club to do so..) yet there is no mention of my name under either category.

And yes, they DO know that I have qualified, our DCs daughters were at the showjumping qualifier which i WON, so she knows!

I know its only a small thing, but its upsetting to me.

When I first got Tara, our showjump team manager saw me jump at a ODE and said to my mum, "she jumps too fast, she wont be able to jump any higher than 3ft". Coinsidently, i haven't been asked to be in any showjumping teams. She doesn't know that I have been winning senior discoveries and have jumped double clear newcomers, and i don't feel the need to let her know, but it is really depressing as i am always being put down by our pony club

the only reason i have rejoined was to get a discount with the BE. Mum says not to let it get to me, and we will prove them wrong when they see us compete, but it really aggrivates me

I know it sounds cocky but the fact is, me and another girl are the most successfull people in our pony club, the only people who are jumping at the height we are, yet only SHE gets mentioned all the time because her mums on the comittee and mines not.

sorry, rant over, just feeling depressed

don't worry about it, you know inside how capable tara is and to be honest she is probably just jealous or she holds a grudge (I assume you probably beat her daughter!)

Ignore them your a talented rider and your track record proves it, if I were you I would be not reading there stupid newsletters and putting them straight in the bin

In my experience pony club is not about how well you do its about whether your face fits, who you know etc .... I wouldn't let it worry you

oh your pc is just the same as mine....you have to be related to the right people and have the biggest lorry!! oh and have lessons with the people that pick the teams even though they are rubbish trainers!

Push yourself forward more.

So long as you do it with a smile, no one can complain!

You are obviously good enough to be on the teams, so why not ask your Mum to give the SJ team lady a call?

Agree with FMC - our local PCs asks that members forward their competition results to them so they can have an idea of who is likely to be suitable for teams. If you don't tell them they don't know!

perhaps they have, but for do it for 2 sections not just one is abit suspicious. And under the dengie dressage it says,
"only one person has qualified this year, so congratulations to ****", which is abit more specific and they do KNOW i qualified for dressage too because nearly everyone from my pony club went to the qualifiers! Fair enough to be missed out on the showjumping one as there where about 10 people qualified but.. *grr*.

Thanks everyone- yes our pony club is very cliquey, and you deffinately need to know the right people.

We are going to enter our pony club team showjumping in Feb as individuals. We are doing the two biggest classes (3"3ft and 3"6ft). I'm sure they wil try and scrape a team together, I'm just hoping they dont ask me, as 3"3ft is our forte

grrr pc really annoys me i only rejoined for area and BE discount! if i went thorugh everything it would take me all night!! ur problem is a fairly regular occourance!!

*goes of grumbling!*

I'd send them a polite email to correct them

I think you need to play the game a little more, dont let them know you are annoyed, but point things out to them.

If they take no notice, move PC's

Edited, becuase i had so much more to say!

I think I would send a VERY nice letter to you DC to say how pset you were.We all like to see our name in print and you deserve a mention. They must be stupid if they overlook you.
Good luck

Yes, but just because all the pc was there, was the person there who does the letter? just wondering if there is an innocent explanation?

do u get a BE discount for being in pc even if u r rejoining BE i thought it was just initial registrations? i am probably rong tho and just shelled out extra money!

Soph - have exactly the same attitude towards the PC, just for different reasons

I'm on my last year of junior rates BE so I'll make the most of that for now.. no idea what will happen next year

Our p.c is the same ,if your not "in" with the managers then theres no chance of anything. For the area eventing they didn't put in a girl in the team who had been placed at novices and JRNs, instead someone whos horse had had half the year off, whose parents are close friends with the trainers. The girl who was a ind was 2nd individually at shelford! Just ignore it or send a polite email saying they've made a mistake.

Maybe try winning the Area Dengie and beating them all would be a good move now if I was you.

That will shut them up and maybe just get you noticed.

Thats Pony Club for you, i taught at P.C for many years, and to be honest most of them where a right bunch of snobs, its all about how well bred you are...
wink.gif

It's probably 40 years since I had anything to do with the Pony Club and I'm gobsmacked that nothing has changed in all those years! Your story is like a step back in time to say the least. I would definately email them as ask why you have been left out. Your competition record should have made you top of the list, Good Luck!

Not all PCs are like that - honest! I've never met such a friendly crowd as the members and parents at the one Rosie belongs to - and btw, she isn't nearly as well bred as her horses are (even with me as her Granny - lol)

Probably best to move on in that case and let those that enjoy it carry on being ridiculous. There's so much fun to be had at a 'proper' pony club.

[/ QUOTE ] Agree with you, Rosiefan. There obviously seem to be branches that are cliquey, but that's not the case for all of them. I was a member myself many years ago, and I didn't come from a horsey family or have parents who helped out, but I never felt excluded and had lots of fun and learnt loads.

My daughter is now a PC member herself and her branch is excellent too.
