Okay so I've never joined a pony club before but have been really interested recently but I'm 16 is that too old as a newbie? I'm in area 6 probably joining rufford, does any one know if any in the area 6 are good? Also I'm painfully shy, are the people usually friendly? Many thanks :-)

You're not too old for Pony Club - I joined at your age and really enjoyed it. Made lots of friends and learnt a lot.

I now teach at Pony Club and am a B examiner - so many years on I'm still a Pony Club member.

You will soon make tons of friends!! We have plenty that joined in their teens so don't worry about that!! :)
We're also in area 6 (although quite a way from rufford) so may even be competing against you soon!!! :D :D xx

Nope I joined this year at 19 so definatly not to old :). I dont know what they are like in your area but the one I joined is FAB!! My boy has come on so much thanks to pony club and we have tried things we never thought we would. Every one where I am is friendly and the mums are nice to (my mum isnt horsey but they all chat to her and explain things to her if she dosent understand), do a bit of research though as some can be rather more exclusive than others.

Enjoy I cant wait to get back to pony club next year and let us know how you get on :).

I think that 16 is an easier age to join than say 13/14, as girls of that age can be a bit tricky and cliquey, but by 16 they have matured enough to hopefully welcome a new person. A friend's daughter joined a branch at 18, and because some older members had drifted away they were short in some teams, so welcomed her with open arms.

It might be worth doing some research though, to find out which branches have older members. It's no use joining if they only have a few older ones - maybe ring up the secretary for your nearest branches and ask how many older teens they have?
