Hi all,

My pony, for the second time, has cut his leg in the field, there is no barbed wire, its all wooden fencing so I don't he didn't cut his leg from that. However I'm thinking the flies are annoying him and so he tries to get them off with his legs and ends up cutting himself. (I do put fly spray on him.) So I was wondering whether anyone can recommend what the cheapest, but good type of boots/bandages I can put on his legs whilst he's out in the field?
Thanks

Can't reccomend any particular brand but robinsons had a few different brands for sale last time I looked, not too price either.

Yeah, don't think the brand matters too much when he's just moseying round the field in them tbh. Personally, I wouldn't spend too much on them incase he wrecks them in mud or trying to get them off.
If he doesn't get on with boots or bandages, perhaps you could try a fly sheet? Reducing the irritation from the flies might stop him kicking his legs about in the first place :)

Get pesky pests from pegasus health and rub it into his legs, might be mites not just flies bugging him, wouldnt hurt either way but it truly does work and kills them to so reduces the numbers. Putting boots n could cause the already made cuts to become more sore by keeping the moisture in and any bacteria there might be, the air will dry them and heal them quicker. The only fly repellant that works is coopers, the other naf ones are just gimmacks and waste money imo.

I agree with putasocinit, but if that doesn't work and you identify flies as cause I saw these the other day on a different website http://www.trot2.com/rambo-fly-boots.ir?cName=for-the-horse-horse-care-fly-protection I have no experience with them but they might be more comfortable for him than traditional field boots in the summer and still stop him kicking if fly bites are the cause? I suppose if hes just kicking because there are flies about rather than landing/biting then he would need protective boots though.

Yes i do like those, hopefully by the time you decide to get amything like that his cuts would have healed, also trim feet so no sharp, ragged edges, clenches up that can cause the cutting.
