Pony fine, kid hurt, mum cross.

Took the 3yr old pony to 2nd show ever at wkd did brill in youngstock, 4th out of 10.
Was about 10 mins into 2nd class all going well. Daughter and pony going very nicely. Then suddenly someone brings a stallian into the class. All horses were lined up and as the stallian passed EVERY horse jumped away from it. It span round and round, couldnt walk only skip.
The stallian was parked behind my daughters mare, didnt take long before back hoofs were flying! My daughters pony pulled her arm so i ran in and got the pony off her. Judge asked me if i was going to continue instead, to which i told her i was getting pony out of there.
My daughter has been having phyiso on her shoulder, she spent a while with the first aid man and now her physio recons she has damaged it more and sending her back to hospital.
Her shoulder had been healing great and so fed up now that it looks like months more rest and no more showing for her this summer.
Another childs pony was cut by the stallian as it caught it when kicking out.
 
i'm very sorry that your daughter was injured, and hope she heals quickly, but tbh i don't think i'd let a child show a 3rd old unless she is very big and strong and the pony is very small and amenable!
fwiw though, at local show this weekend, they stipulate "no stallions" in the showing classes for health and safety reasons...

Most local shows here say no stallions under any circumstances, have seen some turn up anyway though! At one show they got sent out of the ring, at another they were allowed to compete!
 
Oh dear hope her arm heals quickly.

A couple of years ago I had my mare at a local show when some people turned up with a stallion. It got away from them three times and was charging about, the first two times I manged to avoid it but the third time it took a fancy to my mare! It was running round us and trying to get up an my mare. My mare did well but after a few mins gave him a boot which I think he deserved. It was rather scary being on a horse with a stallion trying to mount. The owners ran over shouting at me saying I should have my mare under control and i had better hope he was not injured from kick as he was expensive!

Oh nearly forgot he also damaged three cars!
 
What a cheek to tell you that you should have your mare under control! It reminds me of a time when a shetland stallion came through two fences and ended up in my field with my gelding. When the owner came to collect it some hours later, he told us that we should not have mares on our yard! None of our horses ever escaped and it is up to the stallion owner to make sure it is securely contained at all times.
I hope the owners of the three cars made sure they paid for the damage.
I would hate to think what would have happened if a stallion had got loose when I had been at a show with any of the mares I have had, they have all been complete tarts!
 
We had a similar scenario at our local show recently though luckily no-one hurt. Our pony mare was waiting with her 6 year old handler to go into young handler class, a stallion was waiting for a later class and was playing up and disturbing everyone. Our pony and this stallion won their respective classes and were both eligible for the championship but we decided not to go in as stallion was still playing up. Bit later we were at other end of show ground, pony now in veteran class being ridden by 6 year old, and stallion gets away from its handler and comes charging across. Luckily someone managed to catch it before it got into our ring but could have been very nasty, our mare is also a tart! If stallions are being shown at this level the least the owner could do is make sure they are capable of handling them. There was another stallion at the show who behaved impeccably all day, but the chap who was with him was totally in control.
 
Think you hit the nail on the head there. If this stallian had been under control then it wouldnt have been a problem.
Also if it had turned up on time i wouldnt have let my daughter in the ring with it there. But it came in late and caused chaos in seconds.

i do think its an interesting issue, as an owner of a well behaved 3 year old colt i've found it tricky to find local shows to take him to as many do stipulate no stallions or colts over certain age. i think its more the issue of badly behaved horses, i've seen many geldings cause more problems than stallions but obviously its easier to say no stallions than no badly behaved horses. i understand people take horses to shows for exposure as i do myself but many people seem to have done no groundwork at home preparing for this and really shouldnt be bringing the horse into a public place stallion or not if its uncontrollable. ooh that seems a bit of a rant!
again, hope your daughter is on the mend.
 
Couldnt agree more jessquoi. Any horse that is as bad as that one was shouldnt be at a show imo. There was another stallian in the youngstock class. I didnt notice it was entire untill half way through the class, which shows how good it was.
Thanks for everyones nice coments about my daughter im sure she will be fine and it will just take time.
Does mean i will be showing the pony this summer now. Which my daughter not happy about and when the pony finds out she will be very unhappy about the change of mum

TBH stallion or not, if a pony/horse was misbehaving in such a way as to disturb all the others in the class, it should have been sent straight back out again IMO.
Sorry your daughter was injured. I truly hope she is Ok and your pony also hasn't suffered from this horrid experience.
 
Every time someone asks about having a stallion, and the above sort of stallion stories are related some replies to say "my stallion is perfectly behaved, why do think stallions are dangerous?" Unfortunately bitter experience is that MANY stallions are NOT perfectly behaved and under control.

What bad luck for your daughter, no wonder you are cross.

I ride a stallion out & have hacked him out with an inseason mare & he behaves. He knows he is not aloud them when he is working!

As someone previously said it is down to the manners of the horse, it could of been a mare or a gelding. It is all to do with how they have been handled/brought up.
