I'm looking for a 50g turnout rug in 5'9 for a pony that has no body depth! Normal rugs are like maxi dresses so I need something with less depth and a smaller neck.

I see Gallop has a "Ponie" range but doesn't seem to go up to that size and it's the same for a couple of others that do pony rugs. Amigo Pony does go up to 5'9 but was hoping not to spend quite that much. All seem to be £70+.

Are there any other rug companies out there that do a more shallow fit at that size?

I bought an Amigo a few years ago which was a 5ft 9 and was like a mini skirt in comparison to my 6ft Amigo. I think it was the Amigo Bravo Pony.

weatherbeeta come up like mini skirts on my chunky ponies so might be worth a shot
Thank you! I'll have a look at those. He is very narrow and has no shoulders. The Gallop Trojan one I've tried on is just massive and I have to put a knot in the belly straps!

Has anyone ever used horserugsrus? They seem to have really cheap branded rugs but not sure if they are legit or not?

We have ponies. My herd are mostly wearing Shires rugs, 5ft3 in pony to 5ft9 in standard. In the past we have used amigo (now they rub for some reason) and Weatherbeeta are good for higher withered types. Never had an issue with the rugs being too deep. My ponies range from 11.2hh up to 14hh, age 2 to 20. None are wildly finely built but they’re ponies so small.

I've used them and rugs have been genuine.

I like bridleway rugs. They were great for my Arab when he had no shoulders or hips.- the ontario lite 600D and the 100g plus

Shires Highlander is also great.

I found rugs like Amigo the surcingle straps were too long but with the Bridleway and Shires they were fine but they also went long enough when he filled out.

I've tried a Gallop Trojan one on him and it folds over underneath 🙈

Are they quite good with waterproofing? As they are 600D and I worry that they won't hold up very well compared to a 900D or 1200D.

I haven’t got a regular amigo, but measured the amigo pony against a rhino of the same size and it’s a good 4-5 inches deeper on each side.
Hmm, that is quite a bit deeper! I have a regular Amigo that my mare is in of the same size so I might try that on for size when it's not raining! I still think it might be too deep though.

I would say they last a few winters of being fully waterproof - and then only get damp under for another one.

I currently have (new this year):
2x no fill turnouts.
1x 100g turnout.
All staying dry, on ponies pretty much 24/7 with no shelter.

Last year’s rug:
1x 200g
Also totally dry.

Year before that:
Lightweight. Damp after heavy downpours but otherwise is standing up ok. I have another couple of these as a spare - same year, same issue. Fine unless it’s a heavy downpour. Both have one rip each - a slit. There’s no fill so no underneath of the rug to soak so they are useful as extras!

They do rip if the horse is determined - no more than Amigo in my experience which is a similar price point.

I don't know if they still exist but Saxon and Masta rugs always used to be like miniskirts.
I may be wrong, but when I think of pony rugs I think round barrels on legs, so more likely to be deeper fitting? (Appreciate some ponies like a Welsh b or BRP would be petite little things so might blow that theory out the window!)
