Hi everyone.
My 14.2 welsh pony has moved from quite a large paddock to a small restricted (about 20x30m) paddock with little grazing as shes gained a good bit of weight and I want to get it off as well as stop the possiility of laminitis. That was about 2 weeks ago and I have noticed that since shes been in there shes been very very gassy. The grass is short but with this wonderful weather there should be enough in it to feed her but restrict her at the same time. Could the passing gas be down to lack of forage? or perhaps rich shoots of grass? The only thing I would be slightly concerned for is colic - should i leave a small amount of mature hay just to keep her topped up - or will this just stop her losing weight. She is an INCREDIBLY good doer - she gains 20lbs just from taking in a breath!
Any help from chubby pony owners much appreciated!!
