Pony has Lice - advice please!

Wee gizmo pony has been itchy since we had him, we just put it down to the wwarmer weather with his super thick coat. I did have a little look at his skin but couldn't really see anything. Had a really good look today and hes covered in lice :(

Going to wynnstay tomorrow to buy some powder, will this do or is there anything more I can do?

Poor little thing obviously hasn't come in the best of states!
 
Aw, poor little thing, mine came with lice last year and was rubbing herself raw poor thing. Tbh the powder did very little so Deosect was ordered from the vet. One application and she was much better, 2nd application 2 weeks later and all gone. I did however give a third application 2 weeks after that just be on the safe side. Good luck, it's horrid to see them itching.
 
Sorry forgot to mention that I did remove quite a bit of her coat on her neck and withers (worse infected area) using a shedding blade (she is a Welshie X so coat was really thick and it was January). I couldn't clip as she was terrified of the noise but it worked a treat. I just made sure that I rubbed it in really well.
 
Sprayed him fith front line spray (made for dogs, prescribed for coblet for his leg mites), will powder coblet tomorrow just to make sure. We has a horse at work with lice and he seemed to be ok with just powder. If it hasn't improved by next week will buy something else :)
Would rather not clip him!
 
If the powder & Frontline don't work, a couple of Dectomax shots 2 weeks apart will get rid of just about everything living on the little 'un.
Don't forget to treat the stable too.
 
Louse powder was no use at all on mine. i used 1 dose of eqvalan (not duo ) and as soon as it was mild enough i bathed him in dermoline (think it was called that but I'll check) but the wormer worked really well on its own and was inexpensive :-)

l found my youngster with lice a month ago & no idea where or how she got them she was clear when we went to our last show but l saw her itching when l checked her l found some of the blighters. Louse powder is no good but l did the same as neverseensanta even though l'd only seen a couple when l clipped her it showed that she had them quite bad so glad that l had clipped her she stopped itching & the lice killed as they didnt have a warm thick coat to hide in anymore.
 
My two shetlands had lice last winter, with it being their first winter their coats were ridiculously thick! I got some Deosect from the vets and it was brilliant, 2 applications and they were clear but did a third just to be sure. No clipping or bathing needed! Just need to make sure its massaged in well.
 
Merryn gets lice every year. Always at this time of year. Noone else ever gets them even the horse he shares his field with. I always use lousepowder and it gets rid of them. You do have to watch which brand you use as some are better than others I have a pot of Battles Louse Powder ready for this years arrivel :(
Also be shore to treat any rugs, brushes ect that have been used while he's been itching and anywhere he has been able to scratch to avoid them coming back. Good luck I hope you get him sorted :)
 
The only thing that works for us is fully clip and coopers! Never had it occur more than once though. Did cooper the inside of the rugs though to be sure and repeated it after 2 weeks to be sure.
 
Just a little update - he seems a lot happier ythis morning after spraying with front line, had a look and seen some dead ones. Went to wynnstay and got some powder they recommended which is for sheep to get through their thick coats. Out that on him this morning, also put it on his bed and coblet and coblet bed.

Hopefully should be ok and will powder again next week. Did see coopers fly repellant but it was £30 :o
